The Unit of Genome Biology Research, Department of Molecular Medicine (IMM), invites applications for a 3-year position as a full-time assistant professor in Developmental Neurobiology Researchspecifically focusing on gene regulatory networks governing cortical development and its disruption in disorders. The position has the possibility of being extended by one year. We seek individuals who have research expertise that complements existing focus areas of the department. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

The Department of Molecular Medicine (IMM) aims to generate new knowledge on the function of the human body and disease mechanisms, thereby contributing to improved human health. IMM hosts an interdisciplinary group of experts including in neurobiology and cancer biology and is in close proximity to the experts in genomics, proteomics and chromatin biology. Such a promising environment elicits translational collaborations with clinical practice and research toward understanding mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of various human diseases.

Research profile and tasks

We seek candidates with international research experience with at least four years of post-doctoral training and meeting following requirements:

  • Prior experience with developmental neurobiology,
  • Strong background in epigenetics and transcription factors activity,
  • Strong background in Genomics and proteomics applications,
  • Familiarity with 2D and 3D organoid model systems,
  • Experience in In Utero electroporation and organoid electroporation,
  • Experience in NGS library preparations and scRNA-seq applications.
  • Interest in linking how disruption in mechanisms of cortical development predisposes risk for neurodevelopmental disorders.

Overall, we expect that the candidate applies multi-disciplinary approaches to address the major missing gaps in Developmental Neurobiology.

The main task of the candidate will be to lead neurobiology research within our Genome Biology research unit and investigate mechanisms of gene regulation governing cortical development and its disruption in disorders. Close collaborations will be expected within the research unit and within the Department of Molecular Medicine, as well as with the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, SDU and research units within the Department of Clinical Research and Odense University Hospital (OUH). Establishment of strong international collaborations will be expected as well.

Qualifications

In addition, successful candidates must hold a PhD degree and must have proven at least 4 years of postdoctoral training.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated significant research experience through publications and established international collaborations with prior experience in the supervision of PhD and master students. Special consideration will be given to candidates demonstrating a strong background in any of the above-mentioned themes by publications in respected peer-review scientific journals.

Teaching commitments

The successful applicant will be expected to teach Neurobiology, cancer biology or related topics to medical, BSc and MSc students at courses provided by the Faculty of Health Sciences. The candidate will be expected to participate in mentoring graduate and PhD students pursuing their Master's degree or PhD.

In addition to the above-mentioned tasks, the assistant professor will be expected to participate in the guidance of younger colleagues, both undergraduate and postgraduate (PhD students).
