We are looking for a Scientific programmer to join our Image Analysis Core Facility, with effect from 1 January 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. You will be hired at the Department of Computer Sciences, and your main workplace will be the image analysis facility of the Danish BioImaging Infrastructure (DBI-INFRA) in the Faculty of Health Sciences (University of Copenhagen).

This unique national facility is part of Danish BioImaging Infrastructure, a multi-sited national research infrastructure bringing together two image processing research groups (DIKU and DTU) and ten bioimaging facilities, and offering open access to a broad portfolio of bioimaging and bioimage analysis technologies.

The facility provides an open and remote service in bioimage analysis to support Life Science research groups and bioimaging facilities in analyzing a broad range of scientific datasets from clinical to single molecule imaging by creating new image analysis workflows and making them available in reproducible computing environments. DBI-INFRA is also the Danish node for the ERIC Euro-BioImaging and it is funded by the Danish Ministry for Higher Education and Research.

Required skills:

  • Strong programming experience in at least one high level programming language (e.g. Python)
  • Proficiency with common bioimage analysis packages such as ImageJ, QuPath and Napari
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary environments
  • Core image processing theory
Will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience in providing image analysis as a service, especially in a facility setting
  • Experience in deploying deep learning algorithms for computer vision
  • Participation in collaborative open-source software projects
  • Experience in developing software tools with advanced graphical user interfaces
Primary activities:

  • Lifting proof-of-concept research code to production ready quality analysis workflows
  • Developing a platform to make bioimage analysis workflows readily available to life scientists
  • Organizing user training, workshops, and training schools
  • Staying up-to-date and contributing to the bioimage analysis community

Terms of employment

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The employment is as Research Consultant (specialkonsulent) with possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

The position is a full-time 3.5-year position. Starting date is 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
