Renewables Certification (RC) belongs to the business area of Energy Systems (ES) with more than 4000 people globally. Renewables Certification has the global responsibility for Type Certification (TC), Component Certification (CC), and Project Certification (PC) for Renewables within ES. Currently, Renewables Certification consists of 300+ experts with locations in Beijing, Boston, Copenhagen, Dresden, Esbjerg, Hamburg, Høvik, London, Busan, Shanghai, Taipei, and Yokohama. Renewables Certification is the global market leader in the Renewables Certification market and is involved in 80% of Project Certification for offshore wind parks including offshore substations in the world.

For the Project Certification department, we are currently looking for a Senior Geotechnical Expert with a strong profile and a keen interest in working with renewable energy. Project Certification delivers services related to certification and verification primarily for Offshore Wind Farms, transformer stations, and onshore support structures for Wind turbines as well as services including wave and tidal and other novel technologies via technology qualification. Activities cover all steps in the certification process from review of early designs to design verification, fabrication surveillance, commissioning, and periodic inspection of installations in operation as well as project management.

Our team and the wider renewables certification have extensive experience with offshore projects and have worked with 80% of global offshore wind projects to date. We have an informal and humorous tone among us combined with a professional, diverse, and international working environment. The candidates joining the team will be provided with excellent support to improve their technical knowledge, project management skills, and understanding of offshore projects.

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be:

  • Responsible for the delivery of technical work and managing a variety of exciting offshore projects including floating wind. Your role will be to verify and certify these, following the relevant international standards, reviewing geotechnical data, ground models, and design soil profiles, and identifying any related risks or geotechnical hazards
  • Performing calculations for soil-structure interactions, effects on cyclic loading on soil behavior, earthquake, soil liquefaction and scour assessment for monopiles, jacket piles, suction buckets, gravity-based structure foundations, where 2D and 3D Finite Element Analysis is often used. 
  • Performing foundation analyses to identify the appropriate in-place capacities and stiffnesses that would be used in the assessments of the structure and integrated load calculations. - You will be engaging in constructive technical discussions with designers and developers of the offshore wind industry providing value and de-risking the project
  • Developing your technical skills alongside our world-leading experts, on a variety of high-profile global engineering projects, on behalf of some of the industry’s leading organizations
  • The job provides the opportunity to participate in most of the ongoing offshore wind projects around the world, as well as technical qualifications of concepts, prototypes, and Joint Industry Projects related to geotechnics and participate in the elaboration of DNV technical standards. 

     You will manage your projects on your own, supported by mentors and other senior engineers as well as participate in developing the team's technical capabilities.

  • MSc/. Civil Engineering degree preferably in the field of Geotechnical / Structural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience (at least 5 years) in geotechnical engineering consultancy, with a track record of successful delivery of geotechnical analysis in offshore wind, or oil and gas projects.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • You should be experienced with some or all of the following topics:

  • Geophysical and Geotechnical interpretation of soil data of offshore sites 
  • Soil and rock mechanics - Relevant European and international offshore design codes and standards 
  • Numerical analysis using FEM for soil structure interaction 
  • Offshore structure installation of monopiles, jacket piles, and suction buckets 
  • Offshore substation foundation 
  • Anchorage and station-keeping systems for floating wind 
  • Seabed cables, seabed morphology, cable burial risk assessment, and trenchability 
  • Earthquake and seismic soil design including liquefaction assessment 
  • Advance soil testing and its interpretation 
  • Effects of dynamic loading on soil strength and stiffness
  • Computational geotechnical calculations and scripting optimization of processes
