Join DanSTAR: Your Gateway to Rocket Science!
Hey there, future rocket scientist!
Are you a student with a passion for software development? Do you want to dive into the world of embedded systems and break world records? Look no further! At DanSTAR we are currently looking for bright co-workers to join our Embedded Software team to build our latest and most advanced bi-propellant rocket, Fornax No experience in embedded software? No problem! We value curiosity and a willingness to learn above all else.
Our Embedded Software Team are currently designing and building the software system for our new Flight Computer project, “Æther” for our current Mission, Fornax. Æther’s is programmed in C and experience with C/C++ is therefore highly valued. If not, a solid grasp of object-oriented programming will set you up for success.
You will be working in close cooperation with the Avionics and Mission Control teams.
What projects you’ll undertake is strongly dependent on your skills and interests! Here are some cool things you might tackle:
Adding and incorporating more (pressure, inertia) sensors
Estimating the rocket’s pose from the inertial measurements and other data
Developing the rocket’s internal state machine
Defining a new communication protocol between Flight Computer and Mission Control System
Coding the black box
Writing tests
Writing drivers for the GPS module
Implementing remote flashing of our boards
And other awesome stuff – your suggestions are always welcome!
We are a student run organization, based at DTUs (Technical University of Denmark) Skylab - consisting of students from across universities (ITU, DTU, CBS). We are dedicated to teaching ourselves real-life rocket science – something you won't find anywhere else in Denmark! From financial bookkeeping to technical decisions, everything is handled by our members. We're pushing the boundaries of what's possible in a student association, aiming to reach further and higher into the sky.
We're on a mission to build a small, scalable bi-liquid rocket (Fornax) capable of completing a full flight event, including recovery. This project is about building DanSTAR's infrastructure, knowledge, and skills for even larger future undertakings. Fornax is projected to launch during the summer of 2025 in Portugal in the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC).
Independence: You'll be expected to work independently on your tasks, but don't worry – at DanSTAR we learn together and work as a team, so you’ll always have a great support system.
Effort: Willingness to put in the effort is key. We're a supportive group, but we value dedication and hard work.
Hands-on Experience: Get real-world experience in software development and embedded systems.
Collaborative Environment: Work with a group of passionate students who share your interests.
Flexible Learning: No rigid prerequisites – just a willingness to learn and contribute.
Be part of a team that builds rockets! Do we need to say more?
The opportunity to participate in rocketry competitions around the world!
So, if you're ready to take on new challenges, learn a ton, and have a blast doing it, we'd love to have you on board! If you are interested, please fill out the form below with your relevant information.
