The Ancient Environmental Genomics Initiative for Sustainability (AEGIS) has a vacant position as coordinator for field work and data generation. The position is temporary (4 years) starting January 1st, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Background

AEGIS is a pioneering research centre headed by prof. Eske Willerslev. AEGIS combines the fields of ancient environmental DNA, genomics, metagenomics, informatics and biostatistics, evolutionary biology, ecology, geology, biodiversity, archaeology, plant engineering, and agricultural crop research. We will collect and work on geological sediments, bones, and fossils from approximately 200 different locations around the world to generate and analyse vast amounts of ancient environmental DNA and other ancient and modern biomolecular- data and associated metadata.

The position

We are employing a qualified, highly motivated and committed full-time coordinator of the AEGIS field work and data generation units and are looking for a candidate with solid project coordination experiences, preferably from high-throughput groups.

The position includes the following essential functions:

  • Support the activities needed to ensure a continued and coordinated flow of the AEGIS field work i.e. outline, coordinate, align plans for the field work according to priorities, resources, time and deliverables in close collaboration with core members of the field operations, the ABS controller, the local site authorities or collaborators and other stakeholder such as data generation teams.
  • Develop and ensure transparent documentation and access to information e.g. approvals for sampling, and metadata.
  • Facilitate and maintain information flow and coordination between the teams involved in field work, sampling, and data generation.
  • Undertake various ad hoc tasks that ensure smooth planning of the field work to ensure progression, overcoming of bottlenecks and unanticipated challenges.
  • Participate in the preparation of project progression reports.
Required skills and qualifications

  • Academic background (MSc or PhD), preferably within natural science or engineering.
  • Documented experience of project coordination from large research projects.
  • Strong planning and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated, responsible, proactive with demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organised with a high professional ethical standard and excellent time management skills.
  • Systemic understanding with focus on the processes and how activities tie into the overall deliverables.
  • Understanding of structured data storage and curation.
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.
Preferred skills and capabilities

  • Domain experience in biology, geology or similar.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput operations.
  • Knowledge of bioethics and international biodiversity conventions and legislations.
  • Experienced in local and community engagement.
Terms of employment).

Employment will be as an academic employee (special consultant) and will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

The workplace is at the AEGIS main hub hosted at the Section for GeoGenetics, Globe Institute, Øster Voldgade 5-7, 1350 Copenhagen K.
