The Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen seeks to appoint 1-2 tenure track assistant professor(s) or associate professor(s) to commence 1 November 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
For both positions, the main emphasis will be on the candidate’s ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within one of the research themes of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

The trademark of the Department of Biomedical Sciences is basic and translational biomedicine. The staff includes graduates in medicine and natural sciences, such as molecular biologists, biochemists, anatomists, physiologists, pharmacologists and clinicians, as well as a strong team of laboratory technicians, bio analysts, and administrative staff. The interdisciplinary nature of the Department is evident in its extensive integration of basic and clinical research. The researchers deliver cutting edge research-based and clinically relevant undergraduate teaching and supervision in the field of biomedicine on a range of courses, and teach postgraduate students enrolled at the Graduate School programmes. The researchers are also active participants in a range of centres, core facilities and networks.

Responsibilities
The tenure track assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
• Research, including publication/academic dissemination
• Research-based teaching
• Sharing knowledge with society
• Participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors
• Securing external funding for research

The tenure track assistant professor’s performance will be evaluated through annual evaluations. Furthermore, the tenure track assistant professor will be evaluated in a mid-track appraisal.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
• Research, including publication/academic dissemination
• Research-based teaching, including associated examination
• Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
• Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
• Academic assessments
• Securing external funding for research

Required qualifications
For the tenure track assistant professor the successful applicant should be able to document:
• A PhD degree or similar qualifications in relation to the above subject area
• Research experience within the field of the position
• A track record of secured external funding
• Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies are an advantage that will be prioritised, but not a prerequisite

The tenure track assistant professor must have an academic standing showing internationally competitive research, and/or have internationally recognized high potential to make a future impact.

For the associate professor the successful applicant should be able to document:
• Research qualifications achievable in a position as assistant professor or equivalent within the subject area
• Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
• Research-based teaching
• A track record of secured external funding

For both levels the applicant is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2013).

Furthermore, a start-up package can be negotiated.
