The University seeks to appoint two associate professors for the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to commence as soon as possible. The positions cover the latter two of the following three research areas in the group, ‘Animal Models in Pediatrics’, ‘Cellular and Molecular Pediatrics’ and ‘Pediatric Clinical Research’. About us

The Section of Comparative Pediatrics and Nutrition performs research and teaching related to development, nutrition and disease in both farm animals and human infants. Our work extends from basic in vitro studies on cells and tissues, over animal model studies (mainly in pigs), to intervention and cohort studies of infants at hospitals. The wide range of methodologies requires interdisciplinary collaboration among group members with widely different academic backgrounds (both basic and more applied aspects of biology, nutrition, veterinary and human medicine).

Job description

In considering applying for one of the two associate professorships, the main emphasis will be on the applicant’s abilities to document a high level of original scientific work on an international level within the area of Comparative Pediatrics and Nutrition, as described above.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including project applications, publications and academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of younger researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments
Required qualifications
The successful applicants should be able to document at least three of the “general qualifications” below, and at least three of the “specific qualifications” for each of the two subject areas.

General qualifications

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Experience with laboratory supervision and research project management
  • Experience with national/international grant applications and international relations
  • Scientific administration and coordination of research projects and scientific interaction
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies. Research-based teaching
  • Possess good interpersonal and demonstrated communicative skills


Specific qualifications for position in ‘Pediatric Clinical Research’’

  • Qualifications within developmental nutrition or microbiota studies
  • Qualifications within milk studies and biochemistry
  • Qualifications within human patient studies and clinical trials
  • Qualifications within veterinary animal models with focus on early life
  • Laboratory-based analytical skills relating to nutrition, gut function and metabolism


Specific qualifications for position in ‘Cellular and Molecular Pediatrics

  • Qualifications within developmental nutrition or microbiota studies
  • Qualifications with immunology research
  • Qualifications within veterinary animal models with focus on early life
  • Laboratory-based analytical skills relating to gut function, metabolism, immunology, omics analyses
  • Qualifications with in vitro cell and ex vivo tissue models of neonatal development and disease


Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The positions are covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013.
