The University seeks to appoint an associate professor to the Department of Forensic Medicine to commence as soon as possible.

Job description

Management of the research activities in the field of forensic chemistry and supervision of students. The Department of Forensic Medicine serves government institutions with research-based investigations. Therefore, the candidate selected for this position must participate in requested case work for the police and civil authorities and in the development of methods suited for this purpose. All requested investigations are performed under an accreditation (ISO17025).

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers, e.g. phd-students.
  • Development of methods to requested case work in forensic chemistry
  • Participate in requested case work in cases related to criminal investigations
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments
Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Achievement of external research funding
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching
  • Experience with requested case work in forensic chemistry
  • Experience with the work under an accreditation
  • Insight in the practices and requirements of the Danish judicial system and public government
  • Able to write and speak Danish
The candidate is supposed to have research experience with modern mass spectrometry techniques, such as liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and liquid chromatography- high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). Development and programming of drug databases are also required skills. Knowledge of application of laboratory information system (LIMS) driven processes in the laboratory is supposed.

The candidate is required to have experience with forensic case work and be able to contribute to writing forensic declarations for use in police cases.

Experience with instruction of PhD and masters students is presumed.

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
