The University seeks to appoint a tenure track assistant professor for the LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center to commence as soon as possible.

About the LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center
The LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center is located on the 12th floor in the award-winning Maersk Tower at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology. We offer ultra-modern facilities and a vibrant international research environment with focus on the development of early-career scientists. Based on a grant from the LEO Foundation of more than 50 million EUR, the center aims to unite leading Danish and international researchers in immunology and skin disease to provide new knowledge to enable better diagnostics and more effective treatments for a wide range of inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. Job description
The new tenure track assistant professor will take on an important role in the establishment and long-term development of a new research group focusing on molecular immunology and inflammation, headed by group leader Mads Gyrd-Hansen who commences as professor in the fall 2020. We are looking for a candidate with a record as a sound and reliable scientist with clear professional ambitions within the field. In turn, we offer a unique opportunity to support the development of the scientific direction of the group in the coming years.

The candidate will undertake research that focusses on the role of the ubiquitin machinery in immune regulation, inflammation and host-pathogen interactions, with a particular focus on these processes in the skin. The long-term goal of the group’s research will be to identify molecular processes that underlie immune-driven pathologies and that can be targeted pharmacologically for treatment of skin diseases.

The successful candidate will also have documented experience in immune-related research, microbiology, signal transduction, and ubiquitin biology, and will have hands-on experience with a wide range of experimental methodologies including but not limited to basic and advanced biochemical, molecular, and cell biology techniques, genome editing, mass spectrometry, and experimental animal model systems.

The tenure track assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • research-based teaching
  • sharing knowledge with society
  • participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors
The tenure track assistant professor’s performance will be evaluated through annual evaluations. Furthermore, the tenure track assistant professor will be evaluated in a mid-track appraisal.

Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

  • a PhD degree or similar qualifications within the subject area
  • research experience within the field of the position
The tenure track assistant professor must have an academic standing showing internationally competitive research, and/or have internationally recognized high potential to make a future impact.

The assistant professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
