The University seeks to appoint a 3-year fixed-term associate professor to the Petersen/Villadsen Group at The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine to commence as soon as possible.

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) has 250 members and offers a dynamic and international scientific environment encompassing five research programs and four high profile Research Centers. The ICMM aims to produce research with a high international impact focusing on the functional cell, its genetic components and molecular mechanisms in a biomedical context. The ICMM offers modern laboratory facilities and administrative support. Within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences core facilities and other experimental platforms are also available. The ICMM is also responsible for a number of undergraduate and graduate teaching programs at the University of Copenhagen and the scientists at ICMM are responsible for conducting high-quality research-based teaching. Job description
The Petersen/Villadsen Group at Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine dissects stem cell hierarchies in the normal human breast and in breast cancer, with a view to finding the cell of origin in different breast cancer subtypes. The research group has particular expertise in cell culture models and humanized mouse models for studying breast morphogenesis. The lab has generated an antibody repository suitable for FACS-screening and elucidating breast tumor heterogeneity. A major focus of the research program is to devise culture conditions for stem cell expansion and single cell cloning, along with multicolor imaging techniques, single cell sequencing, viral delivery, CRISPR-CAS9, PDX mouse modelling for studying multipotency and lineage evolution.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate

Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • A strong foundation in human primary culture technologies, molecular biology humanised mouse models, statistics and basic bioinfortics
  • A track record within breast cancer biology is considered an advantage
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching at the undergraduate level within the curriculum of the Department
The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
