2 positions in molecular cancer research at BRIC

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences,

University of Copenhagen

The Sørensen group at BRIC has 2 open positions for highly motivated researchers with a desire to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development and therapy responses.

Our research/The group

The goals of the current projects are to understand how familial breast cancers arise as well as identifying weaknesses within malignant cells that can be exploited in the clinic to manage cancer. Our group consists of ten dedicated researchers, and we have excellent research facilities in modern laboratories. More information on the Sørensen group on http://www.bric.ku.dk/research/Sorensen_Group/

Projects

Project 1, Post doc or Assistant Professor
The project aims to structurally understand the role of new breast cancer factors with focus on how disease-causing variants perturb tumor suppressor functions. The experimental focus will be on biochemical and cell biological approaches, including CRISPR-Cas9 modified cell models.

Project 2, Post doc
The project aims to unravel a new concept in DNA damage checkpoint control. We have identified a radically new pathway utilized by cancer cells as defense against genome damaging cancer therapy. The experimental focus will be on biochemical and cell biological approaches, including CRISPR-Cas9 modified cell models.

Application deadline: July 16, 2020.

Start: Preferably October 2020 or after agreement

Duration: Project 1 is for 2 years (possibility for extension). Project 2 is for 3 years.

Qualifications
We expect you to be a highly motivated and highly ambitious scientist with the following qualifications:

  • A PhD in Medicine or Life Sciences with focus on cancer biology, cancer genetics, biochemistry or similar
  • A desire to make a difference through highly dedicated research
  • Experimental expertise in genome maintenance pathways
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken
  • The successful applicants have experience in generating and working with CRISPR-Cas9 cell lines as well as documented experience in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
Place of employment
The employment is within the Sørensen group at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. For further information regarding the positions, please contact Associate Professor Claus Storgaard Sørensen on e-mail: claus.storgaard@bric.ku.dk

BRIC is located in the Biocenter, close to the centre of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a number of core facilities shared between the 23 research groups at BRIC and the neighboring Finsen Laboratory. The Sørensen team has weekly journal clubs and data clubs. BRIC runs seminars with invited speakers, a young researchers club ASAP and our own PhD programme, MoMeD and our own Postdoc Career Programme. Please read more about the Sørensen research group and BRIC on http://www.bric.ku.dk/
