2-year postdoc position on an optimization study of psychological treatment at the Department of Psychology, Aarhus University

The Department of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position on the project “Optimizing psychological treatment of pain after breast cancer”.

The start date of employment is 15th of October, 2020.

The research project
The main aim of the project is to optimize psychological interventions after breast cancer by identifying and evaluating the most potent intervention components targeting known psychological pain mechanisms. A state-of-the-art methodological approach for systematically building optimized, targeted interventions will be used to support this aim. Patients are recruited in collaboration with the Danish Breast Cancer Group Center and Clinic for Late Effects (DCCL), and the intervention components will be tested in the municipalities of Aarhus and Copenhagen.
The research project is financed by the Independent Danish Research Fund. It is lead by primary investigator Maja Johannsen.

Job description
The main focus of the advertised position is to support the main aim of the project as described. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the project, including data collection, clinical activities, supervision of student therapists, etc. As the project is a multisite project, some travel to Copenhagen must be expected.
The successful candidate will work closely together with the project group and be part of an active research environment. As the successful candidate will be employed at Department of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, Aarhus University, teaching activities are expected.
The project includes funding for student research assistants, data collection, conference attendance, travel expenses, and external clinical supervision.

Your qualifications
The candidate must have:

  • A PhD in psychology (or have completed a PhD at time of employment)
  • Skills to communicate with patients in Danish
  • Experience with quantitative research methodologies (e.g., randomized controlled trials, experiments)
  • Good collaborative skills

It is an advantage if the candidate has one or more of the following:
  • Research experience within clinical psychology
  • Research experience with pain (or other somatic) populations
  • Experience with and/or clinical training in socalled “third wave cognitive therapies” (e.g., mindfulness-based therapies, acceptance and commitment therapy)
  • Experience with conducting systematic reviews
  • Proven track record of high quality publications commensurate with career stage
