Department of Food and Resource Economics, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as associate professor within the field of environmental law. The position has its main emphasis on EU and Danish environmental law, including water law, nature protection law and land use law. The Department wishes to fill the position by 1 January 2019 or as soon possible thereafter.

The Associate Professor will do theoretical and empirical research within the above field, research-based teaching and public sector consultancy work on issues related to environmental law, e.g. water law, nature protection law and land use law, as well as administrative law. Research and teaching may take place in an interdisciplinary setting.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in the above mentioned field or equivalent, must have worked with research within relevant fields in a previous academic position, and have solid theoretical and thematic knowledge.

Applicants will be assessed based on their qualifications within the following areas:

  • Research competences of high international standard within most of the above mentioned and methodological areas as appropriate for the level of Associate Professor.
  • A documented solid track record of publications at an international level, within the topical areas of the position.
  • Possible experience from roles in interdisciplinary research teams and externally funded research
  • Possible experience as co-supervisor for MSc students and PhD students within the area.
  • Possible experience with undertaking policy-oriented research in collaboration with the surrounding society is considered an advantage.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. Applicants must be able to teach in Danish in courses such as (Danish) Environmental and Planning Law.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfil other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

The Associate Professor will be a member of the staff in the department’s Section of Consumption, Bioethics and Governance. The section undertakes research, teaching and advisory work for the public and private sector within a range of issues related to food economics, bioethics, sociology of food and law. The law group has key responsibilities in teaching e.g. law courses in Miljø- og planlovgivning (Environmental and Planning Law), Forvaltningsret (Administrative Law) and EU Law. The Associate Professor will be involved in PhD supervision in connection to own research topics. Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Commencing salary is currently For Assoc. Professor – up to DKK 461.868 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 78.979)
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
