3-year post doc position, Department of Agroecology, Aarhus University Flakkebjerg 968919

Aarhus University, Science and Technology, invites applications for a 3-year position as post doc at the Department of Agroecology, starting August 1st, 2018.

Working area
The successful candidate will be part of a team working on rust diseases affecting cereals and grasses, with main emphasis on wheat yellow (stripe) rust. The candidate will be responsible for epidemiological research involving the primary wheat host as well as Berberis vulgaris, the alternate sexual host. The project is anchored in a new H2020 project; specific tasks will include assessment of sexual capacity of emerging rust races and their impact on rust susceptibility in wheat. The research will involve greenhouse and laboratory experiments as well as field trials. Our group has several nationally and internationally focused projects and we use molecular and virulence markers for studying genetic diversity and evolutionary processes and develop molecular markers for detection, diagnosis and characterization of plant pathogenic fungi. You will be part of the ‘Global Rust Reference Center’ (GRRC), consisting of 10-12 scientists, technicians and PhD students ( (


  • PhD degree within plant disease epidemiology and/or pathogen population biology
  • Research experience in epidemiology of cereal rust fungi
  • Technical skills in setting up plant pathology experiments under lab/ greenhouse conditions, ideally involving both primary host and alternate host
  • Experience in genotyping/phenotyping techniques in rust fungi
  • Experience in collaboration with technicians and scientists from multiple research environments
  • Interest and skills in communication and training of visiting scientists and students

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated.
