You will work in our Human Rights and Development Department with a team of human rights and sustainable development experts. You will ideally have professional or academic experience of using and analysing data and identifying and analysing trends to underpin research or policy work. You will have some experience of data mining, developing databases and presenting data-based analysis visually. You will preferably also have a good understanding of human rights and/or sustainable development, and experience of working in these fields is an advantage.

The Human Rights and Development Department is an innovative and creative department which works in the interrelated fields of human rights and sustainable development. We work with strategic partners including UN agencies, national authorities, civil society networks and National Human Rights Institutions. We develop tools and analysis, engage in global dialogues on sustainable development, and build capacity to integrate human rights into sustainable development processes and initiatives around the world.

An important part of your role will be to work with other members of the team to develop and maintain databases relevant to the projects that the team is engaged in, including the SDG Data Explorer: You will build and maintain partnerships with relevant actors in the sustainable development and human rights space with a focus on data and accountability as well as maintaining relationships with technical service providers, for example, web developers. You will also when relevant design and lead capacity building workshops, webinars and other learning events.



  • Educational background in Social Sciences, data science or other relevant fields
  • Experience of working with large datasets, data mining, developing and maintaining databases
  • Previous experience of working with sustainable development, human rights or in a similar field
  • Keen interest in natural language processing and machine learning (experience is an asset)
  • Keen interest in human rights in the digital sphere/human rights and technology (experience is an asset)
  • Ability to learn fast and to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Fluency in English

  • Knowledge of the relevant national and international monitoring and reporting mechanisms for sustainable development and human rights
  • Good understanding of human rights and SDG indicators
  • Experience using content management systems (especially Drupal) is an asset as well as experience in handling datasets with Python, R or other programming language, or use of statistics programmes such as Stata, is an asset
  • Knowledge of French, Spanish and/or a Scandinavian language

  • someone who can be proactive and work independently
  • someone who is willing to learn fast and develop new skills and knowledge on the job


You will be based at the Danish Institute for Human Rights’ headquarters.

The position is full-time based in Copenhagen with some international travel. Salary is set in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
