Assistant Professor in Anatomy at Department for Veterinary and Animal Sciences

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher who has a strong interest in veterinary research and ability to teach in veterinary anatomy for a 4-year position from 1 March 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Assistant Professor in Veterinary Anatomy will be part of a research team and with teaching obligations mainly in veterinary anatomy.

Our research

The Assistant Professor will be allocated to the Section for Pathobiological Sciences. The major research activities within the section are focused on stem cell-based disease models, embryology, pathology and physiology. An interest in one of these research areas is considered an advantage. More information about the section can be found:

Your job

Your tasks will be to become actively engaged in research activities within one or more of the major research areas of the section and to conduct teaching in anatomy for veterinary and animal science students.

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • Securing funding for research
  • Research-based teaching and evaluation of veterinary students
  • Supervision of undergraduate and graduate students
  • Sharing knowledge with society
  • Participation in a formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experiences:

Essential experiences and skills:

  • You have a PhD in an area related to veterinary medicine or cell biology
  • You are thriving in a highly dynamic and busy workplace and have the ability to work independently and systematically
  • You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within veterinary medicine or closely related fields
  • Proficient communication skills and the ability to work in teams
  • Excellent Danish and English skills written and spoken
Desirable experiences and skills:

  • You have an active interest in pursuing research
  • Contribution to scientific publications as first author
  • An interest in development of teaching skills
  • Experience with writing grant applications and administration of research grants
Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Section for Pathobiological Sciences, Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Frederiksberg Campus, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment

The employment as assistant professor is a full time and fixed-term position for 4 years. Starting date is 1st of March 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 34,600 DKK/ approx. 4,640 Euro (April 2020-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of 2020.

The further process
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the hiring committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an unbiased assessor. Once the assessment work has been completed each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.

The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organizational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates.
