Assistant Professor in applied artificial intelligence for mechatronics

Do you want to join SDU Mechatronics in the innovative endeavor towards more intelligent mechatronic systems? We are looking for a full-time assistant professor as of 01.08.2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

SDU Mechatronics is part of the Mads Clausen Institute located at SDU’s campus in Sønderborg in the inspiring building of Alsion, also hosting a science park, a world-class concert hall, and South Jutland Symphony Orchestra. Thus, the university has close bonds with both the industrial and cultural environment of Sønderborg.

SDU Mechatronics brings together experts from different scientific fields, such as electrical and mechanical engineering, signal processing and control; towards research, education and innovation in the field of mechatronics.

SDU Mechatronics is looking for an assistant professor in the field of applied artificial intelligence and machine learning. Preference will be given to candidates with areas of interest including, but not limited to: machine learning, artificial intelligence and distributed (multi-agent) learning applied to mechatronics and cyber-physical systems.

Main tasks

  • Teaching of theory, application and implementation of artificial intelligence and machine learning in mechatronic and cyber-physical systems.
  • Supervision of student projects and theses within the engineering programs in mechatronics at both bachelor and master level
  • Develop and engage in a top tier research with local colleagues and international peers,
  • Actively participate in attracting external research funding,
  • Actively participate in developing the educational programmes,

Requirements and qualifications

  • PhD degree in engineering
  • Be able to implement AI and ML in various embedded platforms
  • Documented experience with research dissemination in international scientific journals and conferences
  • Experience with mechatronic systems
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as a team player with researchers from different disciplines

The following qualifications are preferred

  • Expertise in applied artificial intelligence in connection to mechatronic systems
  • Experience with embedded systems programming and software engineering for mechatronic systems
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate level courses

Requirements for the position
Employment as an assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.

Conditions of employment
Employment as assistant professor is a 3-year temporary position. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
