Assistant Professor in Functional Genomics

The Functional Genomics & Metabolism Research Unit, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications from outstanding candidates who are interested in joining our unit as an independent group leader and assistant professor in Functional Genomics from 1 May 2021.

We are seeking a highly motivated applicant to join the research unit to develop an independent cutting-edge research programme, and to share responsibilities in teaching and supervision of students and personnel. This will include supervision of bachelor and master projects as well as PhD students and postdocs. The assistant professor will also contribute to departmental administrative affairs as defined by the head of department. The expectation is that the candidate will qualify for tenure as associate professor within a period of three years.

The Functional Genomics & Metabolism Research Unit constitutes an international, ambitious, highly dynamic, and well-equipped working environment. It currently hosts seven independent research groups focusing on various aspects of functional genomics including gene regulatory mechanisms controlling cellular identity, differentiation and metabolism. In addition, the unit hosts two centres, Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (ATLAS) and Center for Adipocyte Signaling (ADIPOSIGN), both led by Professor Susanne Mandrup.

The Functional Genomics & Metabolism Research Unit and Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology have state-of-the-art facilities for next generation sequencing, single-cell transcriptomics, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, metabolomics, bioimaging and transgenic mouse work. Strategic research alliances exist with Odense University Hospital (OUH).

Requirements and opportunities
We are looking for highly motivated, dedicated and ambitious candidates with:

  • A PhD degree in Life Science, preferably Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Biomedicine
  • A strong publication track record with first author publications in leading international journals
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills and a desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment
  • A strong commitment to teach and supervise students
  • A proposed research programme that synergizes with the existing groups in the unit and the department.
