Assistant Professor in Social Epidemiology and Social Medicine

Two 3-year positions as Assistant Professors are available at the Department of Public Health, Section of Social Medicine, University of Copenhagen, starting on August 1st 2018 or as soon as possible hereafter.

The positions
The positions will be attached to the Section of Social Medicine. At the section, we investigate social, psychosocial, psychological, physiological and behavioural determinants of health and function, separately and in a life-course perspective. We also focus on the socioeconomic consequences of disease and functional decline, e.g. in terms of labor market attachment. The overarching focus is on social inequality. We develop and employ a wide variety of epidemiological, psychometric, demographic and qualitative methods in population and patient based cohort studies and intervention studies.

The position’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and teaching with associated examination, obligations within social epidemiological topics as well as courses with a major focus on social medicine. The teaching activities are placed at the MSc in Medicine, BSc and MSc in Public Health and Health Informatics and Master of Public Health as well as relevant PhD courses. During employment as assistant professor, participation in the formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors is expected.

The qualified applicants have a MSc in Public Health, Medicine or similar education. The applicants must prove qualifications in research within social epidemiology and social medicine with a specific focus on social inequality in health. The qualified applicants have documented research experience within mixed methods and/or advanced quantitative methods or register research. The qualified applicants have teaching and supervision experience at university level within public health relevant topics.

The candidate must have a PhD degree or similar qualifications in relation to the above subject area. Also, emphasis is placed on the applicants to enterprise and possess good interpersonal skills.

Employment conditions
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). In addition to the seniority-based salary, the appointee will receive an annual supplement of currently DKK 52.144,76 and additional bonuses may be negotiated on an individual basis.
