Our research

At the section for Food safety and zoonosis we study human pathogens that arise from animals or food products. We study the occurrence and transmission of zoonotic and other infectious human bacterial pathogens along the food value chain and from external environments. We work in research teams that are centred on different aspects of risks to humans associated with pathogens present in food products such as antibiotic resistance and virulence and we study how to mitigate such risks for example by bacteriophages and hygiene measures. We have a strong international staff profile and a large international research network.

Your job

The successful candidate will conduct research within human pathogens that arise from animals particularly via food products and will address questions related to the biology and routes of transmission between animals, the environment and humans. Attention will be given to antimicrobial resistance and the role of food sources as reservoirs of resistant organisms, mobile genetic elements and resistance genes. The experimental research should be supported by bioinformatic analysis from which transmission routes and population biology can be analysed and new research questions posed. Activities will be conducted with a One Health approach and will involve collaborators at Staten Serum Institute among others. The selected candidate will also be involved in the consultancy tasks that arise from the Veterinary Preparedness Program, which from 2020 will be the responsibility of IVH and Staten Serum Institute.
