Assistant Professor within the project "In-home treatment of elderly medical patients - a cross-sectorial alternative to emergency hospitalisation''

The Department of Management at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a position as assistant professor. The assistant professorship is a fixed-term four-year position, and the starting date is as soon as possible subject to mutual agreement.

The research project
The project is an action research project called "In-home treatment of elderly medical patients – a cross-sectorial alternative to emergency hospitalisation". The project examines how an emergency department, three municipalities, GPs, and the Emergency Medical Services, collaborate in order to find a new organization design allowing more elderly citizens to be treated in their own homes, thus avoiding emergency hospitalization. Internationally, these admission avoidance models are called ”hospital at home” services. Researchers affiliated to Aarhus University, Research Center for Emergency Medicine, and DEFACTUM support the cross-sectorial collaboration as to knowledge, and investigate the process of organizing the new continuities of care across professions, sectors and organization forms. Theoretically, this part of the project builds on literature within the area of Organizational Design. The research project also investigates the effect of the new continuity of care (as to health economics, clinical quality (level of function, number of admissions, mortality), quality as seen from the perspective of the patient, relative and employee). Methodological, data is collected by using quantitative and qualitative data.

Your role is to be the project manager of the whole project with a close collaboration with the collaborative organizations and the research manager, Professor Børge Obel. Your research will be to examine the collaboration on a micro level, and to explore the perspectives of the patients, relatives and employees by using focus groups, individually semi-structured narrative interviews, as well as dialogue meetings with patients, relatives and healthcare professionals for qualifying the patient pathway.

The project was initiated in 2018 and will run until the end of 2023. The project is partly financed by the emergency department at The Regional Hospital Viborg, and two days a week, your workplace will be at the Hospital in Viborg. The empirical setting is within the area of Viborg, Skive and Silkeborg.

Teaching: Primary within Qualitative Methods, in English and Danish

Skills: Excellent skills in qualitative methods, fluent in Danish (required within the empirical setting), knowledge about literature within the area of organizational design, knowledge about the organization of the Danish acute care system, relevant teaching experience, collaborative and project management skills

To qualify for the position as assistant professor in Management, you must hold a relevant PhD or have equivalent qualifications.
