Assistant Professorship in Computer Vision

The SDU Robotics section at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), seeks candidates to fill faculty positions at the assistant professor level in the research and teaching area of Computer Vision. The positions are available from summer 2019.

The initial appointment is for a period of 3 years. The successful candidate is expected to conduct cutting-edge research in Computer Vision with industrial applications and especially with a focus on automatic setup of computer vision systems.
The candidate will be integrated in the SDU Robotics section (robotics.sdu.dk), specialising in robot solutions involving sensorial processing, mathematical modeling, learning and simulation, targeted at advanced robot systems for industrial, but also other application domains. The group is involved in a variety of national and European projects. The aim of the group is to solve challenging research problems from real applications and to participate in implementing the achieved results into real solutions with end users.
We are looking for a candidate to extend our research activities in computer vision. A special focus is on facilitating the process of fast setting up of vision systems for new robot applications.
The candidate is supposed to have experience within the following topics:
Modelling and simulation of sensors
Uncertainties and their propagation in sensors and computer vision pipelines
Automatic configuration of computer vision setups
The candidate will be part of the SDU Robotics section and is expected to participate in activities of the section, including current and future research projects and teaching. This involves for example:
To be able to collaborate with our experts in the further development of our core technologies
To participate in the practicalities of actual industrial applications
To be deeply involved in our regular coordination and joint evolvement of research and project activities
To organize, plan and conduct excellent teaching for undergraduate and graduate courses within basic engineering curriculum and computer vision.
To independently supervise project courses, and BSc and MSc thesis projects.

Employment as an assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

Shortlisting may be used. Only shortlisted applicants will be assessed.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, interview and test might be part of the assessment process.

Conditions of employment
Employment as assistant professor is a 3-year temporary position. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
