Assistant/Associate Professor of University Teaching and Learning

Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as assistant/associate professor of University Teaching and Learning from January 1th 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. After a period (normally no less than 3 years), the assistant professor, following agreement and individual positive assessment, will transfer to a position as an associate professor.

The Department produces research at a high international level that feeds into our educational programmes, while simultaneously leveraging our research to impact social, economic and political change. A realization of this objective requires that research and educational activities are based on openness to the outside world, collaboration, inclusiveness and knowledge sharing. The tension embodied in the name of the Department, between people and technology, is a key feature of the Department's research.

Responsibilities and tasks
The Assistant Professor/Associate Professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication and attracting external research income, and research-based teaching within university pedagogy including the Certificate of University Teaching and Learning program. It is expected that the appointee will contribute to the development of the recently established Research Centre for Problem-oriented Project Learning https://ruc.dk/en/research-centre/centre-research-problemoriented-project-learning

The successful candidate to the position is expected to:

  • Conduct research, including publishing, meeting high international standards within the field of university pedagogy and partake as an active member of the Research Centre for Problem-oriented Project Learning including extending its internal and external reach
  • Undertake teaching in university pedagogy and actively develop existing and new offerings within teaching & learning for academic staff
  • Work closely with departments and programs to support their pedagogical work
  • Contribute to various university-wide projects where pedagogical expertise is required
  • Contribute to the internal and external promotion of problem-oriented project-based pedagogy

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree within higher education studies or equivalent. Documented qualifications or experiences in the following areas are required:
  • Designing and conducting research projects and producing research outputs in internationally well-regarded relevant outlets
  • Academic service, e.g. peer review, editorship, organizing conferences, etc.
  • Experience in teacher education and/or professional learning, including the development of existing and new courses or offerings
  • A Certificate of University Teaching and Learning or equivalent
  • Teaching in English
  • Ability to teach in Danish/Nordic language

For the position as Associate Professor, the following is required in addition:
  • Experience with external grant applications and/or other fundraising
  • Extensive academic service preferably at an international level

Documented qualifications and experiences in the following areas are desirable:
  • Expertise in inquiry- and/or problem-based learning
  • Experience with digitally enhanced learning
  • An interdisciplinary profile.The appointee is required to be enterprising, to possess good interpersonal skills and to be a visible, active participant in the Unit’s daily activities.

After the deadline for applications the Head of Department will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee.
Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.
The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.
Once the recruitment process is completed, all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application.
