Associate Professor in Business School Education and the Humanities

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Associate Professorship in Business School Education and the Humanities at the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy.

Profile of MPP
MPP is a multi-disciplinary research department with the ambition to make our research in management and organization studies at an internationally qualified level known to students, companies, public institutions, and research colleagues as innovative, creative and critical/reflexive. A creative, multi-disciplinary dialogue that challenges and combines academic disciplines and perspectives ties research at the department together. This implies that core areas like management, strategy, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, aesthetics, politics, philosophy, sociology and history, become productive and critically relevant in new ways. The department is committed to research-based education and to bring this new knowledge into play in society in a constructive, engaged, and valuable manner. A key focus of MPP is to publish its research with highly ranked academic journals and publishers across a broad spectrum of areas, reflecting the department’s multidisciplinary set-up.

MPP is organised into four research groups: politics; business history; philosophy and management and entrepreneurship. Within and between these groups, research and teaching is developed theoretically and empirically in areas such as leadership philosophy; business ethics; sociology of markets and organization; sustainability; the history of markets and businesses; organizations and entrepreneurship; art and aesthetics; strategy; welfare management and political communication. MPP participates in cross CBS activities such as BIS platform work. cross the department, there is a keen interest in developing new forms of teaching and learning environments in collaboration with CBS faculty, international researchers, students and partner organizations. MPP’s researchers teach in a wide range of CBS programs and covers Bachelor, Master and PhD levels as well as executive programs.

Profile of the position
In announcing an associate professorship in Business School Education and the Humanities, the department wishes to strengthen its research on, and practice of, innovative didactics and pedagogy in business school education on all levels. The position has a particular focus on the contribution of the humanities and liberal arts to management and business school education. The successful candidate is expected to productively translate the insights of research fields like philosophy, leadership and the arts as well as social and cultural theory into innovative teaching formats for the study of e.g. strategy in organizations, institutional pathologies, and the ways coming and current leaders reflect and act. Over time, the ambition is to develop advanced research into the didactical area by employing experiences from e.g. case development, experiential learning, blended learning, and cross-institutional and -disciplinary programs in a humanities and social sciences oriented context of business and organization. The associate professor is expected to actively contribute to establishing and developing international research networks and partnerships related to the practice of the humanities and liberal arts in business school education.

Examples of research areas that the associate professor might cover in order to enhance this research agenda are:

  • Integration of the humanities and liberal arts with management and business school education
  • Business philosophy, strategy and strategic management
  • Art and leadership
  • Innovative teaching formats and case writing with a focus on philosophical and social-theoretical concerns
  • Theoretical developments of business school education, didactics and pedagogy

The Associate Professorship is a tenured position with research and teaching obligations.
To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.

  • Teaching and associated examination in existing CBS programs, including Executive Education
  • Individual and group-based research that meets high international standards
  • Promoting CBS’s academic reputation
  • Initiating fund-raising and coordinating research projects
  • Promoting the teaching and research capabilities of Copenhagen Business School and other relevant assignments at Copenhagen Business School
  • Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the Department and to CBS-wide tasks
  • Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular, including participating in the public debate.
  • Research meeting high international standards, including responsibility for the academic development of the relevant discipline
  • Responsibility for publishing in internationally renowned journals and with relevant publishers, scientific communication and research-based teaching
  • Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • The Associate Professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the research of the Department’s research areas and to maintain and strengthen CBS’s international research position.

  • Advanced degree in an appropriate field
  • Documented teaching qualifications or other material for the evaluation of his/her pedagogical level.

Recruitment procedure
The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.

The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment.

Once the recruitment process is completed each applicant will be notified of the outcome of their application
