Associate professor in cardiovascular pharmacology and physiology

The Research Unit of Cardiovascular and Renal Research, Department of Molecular Medicine, invites applications for a full time associate professor position in cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology.

We seek individuals who have research expertises that complement existing focus areas. Major research areas of the department are regulation of blood pressure, resistance artery structure and -function, arterial remodeling, endothelial dysfunction, renal epithelial function and mechanisms of hypertension and end-organ damages in atherosclerosis, renal failure and diabetes.

Research profile and tasks


The main task of the candidate will be to establish lines of research that strengthen translational and integrative approaches at the molecular, structural and pharmacological levels in cardiovascular biology and medicine within our research unit. Close collaborations are expected within the department, SDU's Faculty of Science, and with the nearby Odense University Hospital. OUH is the main hospital in the region (population of 1,5 million), responsible for diagnoses and treatments within all specialties. Establishment of strong international collaborations of benefit to the group as well as the department will be expected as well.


Research qualifications


The successful candidate must hold an MD, or equivalent MSc in biomedical sciences, a PhD, and must have proven postdoctoral training, formal pedagogical training ("adjunktpædagogikum" or equivalent) and supervising experience and must have demonstrated significant research through publications. Special consideration will be given to candidates that demonstrate by publications in peer-review scientific journals, a strong background in imaging, cell-cell communication, biomechanics and molecular pharmacology at both in vivo and ex vivo levels. Experience with experimental animals is an advantage.

Teaching commitments


The candidate will hold course responsibility and teach pharmacology and physiology to medical and MSc students at courses provided by the Faculty of Health Sciences. The candidate will be expected to participate in mentoring graduate and PhD students, pursuing their Master's degree and PhD.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
