The Unit of Health Promotion Research, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark, Campus Esbjerg invites applications for a position as associate professor within the area of health promotion with competences in policy research.  The position is available from February 1, 2020.

The successful applicant will be expected to conduct and publish internationally competitive research in the fields of health promotion. The position aims to strengthen ongoing activities in the unit within the field of evidence-informed public health, implementation and research/practice collaboration. 

This work will be conducted in an open and inspiring work environment of a group of international researchers coming from different disciplines, such as public health, political science, sociology, psychology, biology and epidemiology. The candidate must be able to work cross-disciplinary in teams’ collaboration between researchers and the surrounding society. The new associate professor should develop her/his own research field in collaboration with these research areas.

Required qualifications

The successful candidate for the position as associate professor must

  • Hold a PhD degree in Public Health or Social Science   
    • Demonstrate research and teaching qualifications obtained as assistant professor or through an equivalent position of minimum two years within the subject areas
    • Document solid research experience published in international peer-reviewed journals within the fields of health promotion and public health

  • Have a documented record of teaching experience, pedagogic training and teaching skills in the respective field at the bachelor and master level.

Further assets of the candidates are: experience with funding applications and project coordination, international research collaboration, collaboration with practice partners, and teaching administration.

330100474PhD Position for Innovation Fund Denmark Drones4Energy Project On Autonomous Drone Navigation Near High Voltage Powerline CablesRobot The Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Center at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applicants for a 3-year PhD position in the area of autonomous drone navigation near high-voltage overhead powerline cables. The starting date for the position is as soon as possible, and it will be agreed with the successful candidate. The PhD is expected to perform high-quality research as a part of the research and innovation project Drones4Energy that is partially funded by Innovation Fund Denmark and SDU strategic focus initiative. Drones4Energy is an innovative drone project that contributes to the state-of-the-art in electrical and communication engineering technologies to build a fully autonomous drone system that can charge itself from overhead powerline cables. The project promises to deliver an autonomous and self-charging drone system that can inspect the power grid in a highly efficient manner. The Ph.D. research will focus on developing an autonomous drone system that navigates and grasps on an energized power line cable. The PhD student will be working closely with highly-skilled researchers and engineers at the SDU UAS Centre and the Drones4Energy project partners. The system will integrate advanced onboard embedded sensing systems such as LiDARs, RGB event cameras, magnetometers, etc., and control the drone based on the fused data. The system will be tested indoors and outdoors at the SDU UAS testing center. The Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Center at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applicants for a 3-year PhD position in the area of autonomous drone navigation near high-voltage overhead powerline cables. The starting date for the position is as soon as possible, and it will be agreed with the successful candidate.

The PhD is expected to perform high-quality research as a part of the research and innovation project “Drones4Energy” that is partially funded by Innovation Fund Denmark and SDU strategic focus initiative.

Drones4Energy is an innovative drone project that contributes to the state-of-the-art  in electrical and communication engineering technologies to build a fully autonomous drone system that can charge itself from overhead powerline cables. The project promises to deliver an autonomous and self-charging drone system that can inspect the power grid in a highly efficient manner. The Ph.D. research will focus on developing an autonomous drone system that navigates and grasps on an energized power line cable. The PhD student will be working closely with highly-skilled researchers and engineers at the SDU UAS Centre and the Drones4Energy project partners. The system will integrate advanced onboard embedded sensing systems such as LiDARs, RGB/event cameras, magnetometers, etc., and control the drone based on the fused data. The system will be tested indoors and outdoors at the SDU UAS testing center.

The successful candidates will be expected to have:

  • MSc degree in robotics, mechatronics, electrical engineering or related fields (equivalent to a Danish master's degree).
  • Practical experience with ROS, sensor fusion, and machine learning.
  • Excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, C, C++, MATLAB).

Additionally, the candidate should have excellent writing skills in English and be able to work independently.

Research environment
The successful candidate for the position will be affiliated with the UAS Centre at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark. The UAS Center was established in 2015 and brings together experts in robotics, computer vision, physics, software engineering, mechanical engineering, and cyber-physical systems to focus on research, education, innovation, and collaboration in the UAS domain.
