Associate professor in molecular neuropathology

A 3-year position as associate professor (10%) in molecular neuropathology is vacant at the Research Unit of Pathology, Department of Clinical Research, from the 1st of June 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Research Unit of Pathology

The department has a very active research environment extending to all subspecialties. Further-more the department is very active in research in different methods of pathology, including flow cytometry, PCR, NGS, morphometry, cell culturing, immunohistochemistry, FISH analysis, and electron microscopy (EM) including immune-EM.

The research staff comprises 4 professors, 6 associate professors (teaching), 1 postdoc and 5 PhD-students.

Research profile and tasks

The associate professor will be part of the brain cancer research group at the Department of Pathology, Odense University Hospital.

Brain tumor diagnostics is a highly specialized area at Odense University Hospital. The current position will primarily focus on molecular brain tumor diagnostics at the Department of Pathology, and will involve both local, national, and international research partners.

The research areas of the brain cancer research group cover clinical, pathological, and experimental research. It will be expected, that the research performed by the assistant professor will add to the current research fields of the research group, which primarily is related to improved diagnostics, novel molecular methods, as well as increased molecular understanding of the molecular pathology of brain tumors.

Teaching profile and tasks

The associate professor will be expected to teach at the Faculty’s master and Ph.D. education programs. Teaching time will be negotiated at the time of appointment.

Expectations of qualifications:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• have a PhD degree in molecular biology
• be educated in molecular biology on M.Sc level (preferably)
• have research experience within molecular biology
• have experience with next-generation sequencing and array based technologies like genome-wide methylation profiling
• have working knowledge on data analysis in particular related to sequencing and array-based data.
• have existing research collaborations with other research institutions or industrial partners would also be beneficial

Regarding research matters, the associate professor will refer to the Head of Research at the Research Unit of Pahology, professor, chief physician, Bjarne Winther Kristensen. In matters related to the position, the applicant will refer to the head of the Department of Clinical Research, professor Kirsten Kyvik.
