The Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Technology Entrepreneurship with emphasis on emergent technologies and digitalization.The targeted starting date of the position is August 1st, 2019.

The position is located within the Section SDU Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation (TEI) at the Faculty of Engineering on the international campus Sønderborg. The section unites engineering, innovation management, and entrepreneurship scholars in joint research projects and teaching. TEI focuses on the technological innovation process, from ideation and prototyping, through production and operations management, to technology commercialization.

Projects currently run by the group cover a range of cutting-edge technology innovation topics with high impact, among others this includes: Smart Factory – I4.0, digitalization and lean automation, collaborative robots, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, new technology transfer models, and emerging technologies commercialization and entrepreneurship. The group publishes in leading international journals across these topics, such as CIRP Annals, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Research Policy, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Creativity and Innovation Management, Journal of Small Business Management or Business Horizons.

Job description

A successful candidate will drive internationally competitive research, collaborate in and across disciplines, work closely with industry and attract competitive external research funding. The candidate is expected to contribute significantly to SDU TEI’s research and teaching environment and to the overall strategy of SDU’s Mads Clausen Institute (MCI). The candidate is expected to provide outstanding education, supervise bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level students, as well as to contribute to the development of junior faculty research to high international standards.

The candidate will get the opportunity to shape this development together with the team and develop and implement research-project ideas with a regional focus and impact. Topics of interest (but not limited to) are: digitization of firm’s activities, digital transformation in the industrial context, commercialization and entrepreneurship in new emerging technologies (IoT, blockchain, biotech, nanotech…), new forms of university-industry collaboration, new models of industry and start-ups collaboration, and academic entrepreneurship.

The candidate must possess research qualifications and teaching skills corresponding to those obtained after a successful completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor (or equivalent academic qualifications).

The candidate must have a PhD degree in engineering, technology management or a closely related field, an emerging research track in the field (in engineering and/or technology management and/or entrepreneurship journals), evidence of excellent teaching at undergraduate and graduate level (e.g. teaching evaluations, awards, having completed pedagogical and supervision courses), evidence of project/s participation with competitive research funding (at national and/or international level). In addition, candidates with any kind of practical experience in a company will be preferred.

We are seeking for a highly motivated and outgoing candidate, who is able to work and communicate in an international and interdisciplinary team. The candidate must be a team player and at the same time able to carry out independent and rigorous work.

  • Ability to work in national and international projects across a variety of industries: manufacturing, IT, health and life sciences, or consumer products.

  • Experience in performing research management activities, editorial experience, planning and running conferences or workshops, etc.
  • Experience in attracting and managing externally funded projects with multiple partners (e.g. EU projects).
