Associate Professor of Clinical Proteomics and Dermatology 20% (Fixed-term 4 years)

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 4-year associate professorship in Clinical Proteomics and Dermatology (20 %) to commence Autumn 2020 in the Clinical Proteomics Group at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research.

Our research

The main research focus of the Clinical Proteomics group, led by Professor Matthias Mann, at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR ), is to identify novel biomarkers that can be used for patient diagnosis and possibly for the prevention and treatment of dermatological and metabolic diseases, including associated inflammatory diseases and cancer. To this end, the lab is developing and using cutting-edge mass spectrometry-based proteomics; an area in which the Mann Group is world-leading.

The position

The successful applicant will be working with implementing mass-spectrometry based proteomic in the clinic as a diagnostic tool for inflammatory skin diseases. Your focus will be to generate novel insight in inflammatory skin diseases using mass-spectrometry based proteomics and furthermore to implement mass-spectrometry in clinical diagnostics. You will work in close collaboration with physicians, physicists, bioinformaticians and other experts in the field of proteomics. The position also includes designing, execution and analysis of clinical discovery studies. Teaching activities are to be expected.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Societal outreach activities
  • Academic assessments
Required qualifications
The applicant should be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching
  • Leadership training

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.



Profile
Applicants for associate professorships must have qualifications corresponding to at least the level attained on successful completion of an assistant professorship. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic physician scientist (MD/PhD) with the flowing profile:

  • Research experience in the field of Clinical Dermatology, Immunology or Dermato-oncology.
  • Active interest, and preferably prior experience, in bridging proteomics with clinical application.
  • You are actively working in the clinic in the field of dermatology.
  • You have previous experience mass-spectrometry based proteomic studies in the context of dermatology and/or immunology.
  • Advanced teaching qualifications: Teaching and Learning in Higher Education programme (or equivalent experience) and a teaching portfolio that documents varied pedagogical/didactic practice experience of students from bachelor students - to postdoc level.
  • Experience in designing and execution of animal and clinical studies and broad laboratory experience that includes flowcytometry, immunohistochemistry and initiation of primary cultures from skin.
  • Participation in relevant Danish and international academic networks.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken.
  • Leadership training.

Terms of employment

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated.



The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities 2020.
