Associate Professorship in International Business & Entrepreneurship

The Department of Marketing & Management invites applications for one or more positions as Associate Professor in International Business & Entrepreneurship. The positions are located in Odense, but teaching may be required at the Campus in Slagelse. The positions will be vacant from August 15th 2018 or thereafter.


Job description


The positions are a first step in recruiting scholars for the further development of the research unit. The research unit focuses specifically on the international business activities of B2B companies within the setting of an increasingly internationalized world. The research unit is engaged in two major research themes: International business and international entrepreneurship with special emphasis on international activities of small and medium-sized firms, international market relationships, entry modes, and business models in general. The unit is currently developing additional research expertise in emerging markets and industry 4.0 consequences for international business and international entrepreneurship. The goal of the research unit is to contribute to an improved understanding of the emergence and growth of firms in diverse markets, through the study of the organization of marketing and strategic activities both within the firm and through the interplay with other actors on the market.

We are looking for candidates with the potential to decisively add to this research agenda. Successful candidates will have an international profile and a strong record of research publications in globally top-ranked journals, preferably in journals such as Journal of International Business Studies, International Business Review, Journal of International Marketing, International Marketing Review and Journal of International Entrepreneurship. If the candidates have not published in top-ranked journals, they should have demonstrated a willingness to aim for the most recognized academic outlets internationally, and have a strategy where such aims are realistically planned for and realizable within the next few years. 

We expect the successful candidates to actively engage in the development of the research unit as well as contribute positively to the department as a whole. As senior scholars, candidates are expected to contribute actively to the social and academic lives at the department as well as participate in the guidance of doctoral students and junior faculty. Also, we expect active and constructive participation in the university's academic administration. Furthermore, the right candidates should thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment that seeks to contribute to a broad academic dialogue. To fulfill the requirements of the position, the candidates chosen are expected to be physically present on a regular basis. 

Candidates are furthermore expected to have an interest in (and preferably experience of) knowledge exchange with society in relation to the field of research. In addition to the above mentioned requirements, it is an advantage if candidates have experience of interdisciplinary cooperation and fundraising, as well as the desire and competence to play a whole-hearted role in an interdisciplinary and enthusiastic research environment. 

The candidates should have a Ph.D. degree within the mentioned research area and will be expected to teach and supervise students who participate in bachelor courses at our Business Administration programs and master courses linked to our M.Sc. profile in International Business which attracts more than 100 students yearly, out of which more than half are non-Danish speaking. The successful candidates will have substantial teaching experience and must document pedagogical qualifications and competences at development and innovation in the pedagogical domain. The announced positions should further strengthen the research of the unit as well as contribute to the development of a talent/elite program for the best M.Sc. students.

Owing to the increasingly international focus of the degree programs, applicants must demonstrate ability to teach in English. If the successful applicant is not fluent in Danish, he or she will be expected to learn Danish within a period of approximately two years.

Research within the Department is anchored in an understanding of the cooperation between markets, organizations and individuals. It encompasses a variety of areas from evolutionary models of organization to new exotic forms of consumption. Research at the Department is organized in five research units. Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

  • A publication plan detailing the candidate's ideas and plans for her/his publications for the next 3 years

  • Complete list of publications, indicating which publications are most relevant for the position

    • If a publication is currently under review or accepted and is included for evaluation, documentation from the relevant journal (e.g. email correspondence, screen dumbs from publication systems etc.) must be added to the PDF

All non-Danish documents must be translated into English.


Applicants applying for an associate professorship are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Formal application instructions and a guide for the teaching portfolio may be found here.


Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the committee will assess whether you are qualified to be an Associate Professor. 

The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant's qualifications, an interview may be conducted. Appointment may also include observation of the applicants' teaching abilities in regard to related degree programs.


When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Deparment who will assemble an appointments committee. The appointments committee will manage and complete the job interviews, should such be conducted. 

Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above requirements will not be assessed by the committee.
