The University seeks to appoint an associate professor within manufacturing sciences at the Department of Pharmacy to commence as soon as possible.

Job description

Research at the Department of Pharmacy is concerned with the physical, chemical and biological characterization of drugs and excipients of all sizes and structures in relation to ADMET, pharmacokinetics, metabolomics and drug transport. The goal is to provide a platform for full quantitative and qualitative characterization of drug compounds and drug formulations supported by computational approaches enabling simulation and prediction of the behaviour of these systems.

Future health care system based on personalized products requires development of novel manufacturing solutions enabling the flexible and continuously operating manufacturing solutions for personalized medicines. The candidate’s research should focus on innovative product design principles and enabling manufacturing solutions. The emphasis should be on experimental work covering engineering principles and material sciences applied to these innovative products. The position is in the group of Manufacturing and Materials (M&M), but as the research is cross-disciplinary in its approach, it is envisaged that significant collaboration will take place across the department’s groups.

The candidate will play a leading role in developing the scientific objectives and strategy of the research within the M&M group and the Department. Planning and managing of research projects is an important task. It is expected that the candidate will participate actively in the development of the manufacturing sciences in research and teaching at the Department of Pharmacy.

The candidate will also be a key participant in the development of the Department’s teaching programme at graduate and postgraduate levels, with a focus on the pharmaceutical product design related topics in the pharmaceutical educational programs.

In considering applications for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work on an international level within the area of manufacturing sciences related to pharmaceutically relevant products.

The applicant is expected to have a strong background in pharmaceutical sciences, with an indication of ability to attract external funding. The applicant should have experience in developing demanding experimental platforms and document substantial research activities related to innovative pharmaceutical products. It is expected that successful candidate has experience within pharmaceutical manufacturing platforms and the advanced characterization tools needed to characterize innovative pharmaceutical products. A candidate documenting teaching experience within pharmaceutical sciences, especially within pharmaceutical technology, will also be given preference.

The associate professor’s duties will primarily consist of:

  • research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication
  • research-based teachingwith associated examination duties
  • research leadership as well as educational guidance and supervision of assistant professors
  • professional assessment work
  • manage research as well as communicate research results to the public


Required qualifications

The successful applicant should be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Original scientific research at the highest international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the subject area
The associate professor is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills.



Terms of employment

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013.
