Associate Professorship in software requirements engineering

The Computer Science Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for a faculty position in software requirements engineering, at the rank of associate professor. The proposed starting date is February 2021 or soon thereafter.

The Computer Science Department seeks to conduct research and education that are both foundational and have impact on industry and society.

The candidate
We look to hire a strong candidate holding a PhD in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field.

The candidate is expected to be able to conduct research and research-based teaching in one or more of the following areas:

  • Requirements engineering. Focus on security for socio-technical systems and the creation of conceptual modeling techniques is an advantage.
  • Software engineering
The ideal candidate should document:

  • Publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer reviewed venues, such as International Requirements Engineering Conference, REFSQ, Requirements Engineering Journal, Data and Knowledge Engineering, and ICSE
  • Competences in developing and conducting teaching that is well received by students
  • The involvement in and management of externally funded research projects
  • Services rendered to institutions in which he/she has worked and the broader peer scientific community, for example, participation in committees, editorships, etc.
In addition, an experienced associate professor should document the ability to:

  • Supervise PhD students
  • Read and speak a Scandinavian language (or the willingness to learn Danish)
Job description
The associate professor is expected to conduct research at a high international level, to develop and expand personal networks in related international communities, to collaborate with fellow faculty members in the area of requirements engineering in particular and software engineering in general, and, when relevant, to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations. The associate professor is expected to contribute to the IT University’s education programs, especially software development, computer science, and software design, both by giving courses and by supervising projects and theses at both BSc and MSc level. Furthermore, the associate professor is expected to actively participate in securing external funding; to engage with society, e.g., through external collaboration; and to contribute to the IT University’s strategic goals through internal processes and committee work.

General information
The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time academics. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact and the commercialisation of IT.

Salary
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

  • Copies of 3-5 publications relevant to the position
  • A numbered list of publications. The enclosed publications should be marked with an asterisk (*)
  • Documentation of pedagogical experience and teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position
  • Preferably documentation of both a) received observation and feedback on teaching, b) pedagogical training courses as a teacher, c) a formal written assessment of teaching competence, and d) a teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position

The applicant will be accessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of 13 March 2012.

The IT University may use shortlisting in connection to the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chair of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
