Associate/Assistant Professor in Façade Design and Engineering

The Department of Technology and Innovation (ITI), University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense, invites applications for a vacant position as associate or assistant professor in Civil and Architectural Engineering, specializing in Façade Design and Engineering.  The appointment as associate professor is permanent, while the assistant professorship is for a three-year period.

We are recruiting world-class researchers in order to expand our research capacities and strengthen our collaborations with Danish and international industry. The specific position is for a high priority area with significant career potential for the right candidate.

We are recruiting specifically to establish research and education in Façade Design and Engineering, while we are developing other, related research areas. The right candidate will have excellent opportunities to develop transdisciplinary research and education across the following research fields:

  • Façade design and Engineering;
  • Urban Resilience and Sustainable Development;
  • Digitalization;
  • Industry 4.0 and Automation for Construction;

The positions are assigned to SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering, which is an interdisciplinary unit at the Department of Technology and Innovation in Odense, Denmark. We have strong competencies in civil engineering and the successful applicant will be able to contribute to, and preferably build upon, existing areas, working with leadership to expand and strengthen research for high performance building and sustainable urbanisation.

The section contributes significantly to the following educational programmes:

  • BEng in Civil Engineering;
  • MSc in Structural Engineering;

A specific task will be that of developing and delivering a programme in Façade Design and Engineering as an integral part of the European Façade Network (EFN).

The successful candidate will be expected to

  • develop and engage in a top tier research with local colleagues and international peers,
  • actively participate in attracting external research funding,
  • actively participate in developing the educational programmes,
  • provide outstanding education at all university level courses,
  • supervise students and, depending on level, develop junior staff.


The candidate must have a PhD or equivalent.

Commensurate with the academic rank of the position applied for, the candidates must have:

  • An outstanding research and publication record in fields relevant to the position;
  • Extensive experience with industrial collaboration;
  • Strong record of accomplishment of attracting research funding.

In addition, experience in innovation and bringing research results to the market will be highly valued as will developing continuing education programs for executives and professionals.
