Our Copenhagen Office is looking to hire a Business Development Manager, Southern Europe & Mediterranean
We are looking for a new member to join our Business Development team and be responsible for handling acquisitions and prequalifications in Southern Europe focusing on the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean, with the flexibility and interest to support on the various countries within this market. As a Business Development Manager you will be involved in developing our market strategy, and through your work helping to define BIG’s future. You will be initially located in Copenhagen with the chance to relocate to the Barcelona office and will take the lead in increasing BIG’s presence in the various markets the Barcelona office serves by developing new client relationships, finding the right opportunities and defining a clear go-to-market strategy. BIG is a group of 700+ architects, engineers, urbanists, inventors, researchers and business minds from all over the world who are based in our Copenhagen, Barcelona, New York, London, and Shenzhen offices. We opened our office in Barcelona in 2019 from where we work on multiple projects mainly in the Iberian peninsula, the Mediterranean and South America. The office has recently completed Biosphere, a hotel cabin wrapped by 350 birdhouses, for the Tree-Hotel in northern Sweden. Ongoing projects include Fuse Valley, an office campus for fashion e-commerce platform Farfetch and tech companies in Porto; a flexible multi-tenant office building in a former industrial area in Barcelona; exclusive villas with integrated landscape and amenities in Limassol, and a park facing residential highrise building in Athens. Recent competition wins include the Joint Research Center for the European Commission that pushes and challenges the boundaries of sustainability in Sevilla, and the Gastronomy Open Ecosystem that represents an architectural fusion of gastronomy, technology, and innovation in San Sebastian. Together with our NYC office we are overseeing the construction of Iqon and Epiq, two residential towers in Quito, Ecuador.
You will be based in Copenhagen with the opportunity to relocate to the Barcelona office, and working within BIG’s Operations team both in Copenhagen and Barcelona, reporting directly to the Head of Business Development for Southern Europe & Mediterranean, and you will have a strong working relationship with the Partner group, Managing Director, the Bidding Manager, Communications team and our in-house Legal team, as well as the Business Development teams in our Copenhagen, New York, London, and Shenzhen offices.
As Business Development Manager, you will:
Give active support to the Business Development Team, including, Partners and Directors Prepare responses to RFQs/RFPs/RFIs Assess and develop recommendations for potential new projects Manage approaches and pitches to secure new direct commissions/clients Prepare time schedules, fee & scope estimations with support from management leaders Prepare fee proposals and negotiate these with support from management leaders Manage junior personnel in the Business Development Department Manage client relations and host client visits Represent BIG at selected conferences, lectures, events Assist in market research and development of marketing material Maintain CRM databases Prepare regular status updates. BIG is looking for applicants with: Minimum of 5 years’ experience from similar or related position within the Architecture industry Fluency in English and Spanish (fluency in another language, especially Portuguese, is a plus); Masters level degree in either Marketing, Business, Communication, and/or Architecture, or related field Proficiency in MS Office & Adobe CS (particularly InDesign) Experience with CMS Client Management Software is a plus Excellent communication and organizational skills An interest and affinity with market research An understanding of architecture, building procedures and urban planning is recommended Self-discipline and confidence in an ad hoc environment.
