As Data Engineer you will create tools and data pipelines that use the latest technologies in data engineering thus enabling scientists to automate and streamline their daily research. You will utilize your wet lab experience or domain knowledge of biopharmaceutical R&D processes in combination with a solid understanding of scientific data handling. You will contribute to the transformation of our research into modern, automated and data centric laboratories.
 

  • You will work closely with scientists and domain experts from areas like expression, purification, chemistry or characterization, guiding them in streamlining and automating scientific data capture, analysis and visualization.
  • You will participate in building the foundation of a new data culture
  • You will guide our scientists in the transformation of their laboratories, serving as a key partner in the access, processing, integration and definition of their data assets
  • You will automate existing manual data processes into Extract-Translate-Load (ETL) operations using fit-for-purpose tools
  • You will help to implement data management systems to improve accessibility and quality of scientific data
  • You will work on designing a framework of accurate data annotations by understanding and collating data and metadata from various sources
  • You will correct, transform and enrich multiple data sources and establish quick and efficient load of bulk data
  • You will closely work with data scientists to identify the path to successful data products 

 

Qualifications

Preferably, you hold a PhD degree in life sciences (e.g. biophysics, structural biology, biochemistry or related field) with a strong background in scientific data handling.  Alternatively, you have a degree in computer science, information systems technology with extensive understanding of biopharma processes or life science background. Previous experience in biopharmaceutical industry in a similar role would be highly favourable.

Essential prerequisite is the knowledge to translate science to code by

  • Coding experience in Python, R, C, or similar languages
  • Experience working with databases and knowledge of SQL and non-relational databases
  • Proficiency in rapid prototyping of software packages and dashboards for functionality and visualization development in e.g. Jupyter, Shiny or Spotfire

 

Since all work takes place in multidisciplinary project groups, good interpersonal communicative skills and the ability collaborate with domain experts are essential.
