Clinical Professor in Diabetes with function as Head of Research and Consultant in Endocrinology at Steno Diabetes Center Odense, Denmark (combined position)

A combined position as Clinical Professor in Diabetes with function as Head of Research, and as Consultant in Endocrinology is vacant at the Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark, and at the Steno Diabetes Centre Odense (SDCO), respectively.


The two combined posts are considered as one entity. Allocation of time between the clinical professorship and the consultancy will be negotiated and may vary with time.


The Steno Diabetes Center Odense (SDCO) is created in collaboration between the Region of Southern Denmark and the Novo Nordisk Foundation (see this document) and located at Odense University Hospital.
The Professor/Head of Research will refer to the Director of SDCO and will be part of the SDCO's senior management team.


The Professor/Head of Research will be instrumental in developing SDCO into a world-class clinical research center. Thus, the Professor/Head of Research will be expected to build a strong collaboration not only with hospitals, municipalities and general practitioners within the region but also with national and international institutions. The professor and consultant must be a specialist in endocrinology and highly qualified within the field of diabetes.
SDCO will comprise an array of research programs each run by a Program Leader. Program Leaders will refer to the Professor/Head of Research. The Professor/Head of Research will also be expected to run a research program personally. Initially, at least two positions as PhD students and/or post-docs will be made available for the Professor/Head of Research.


The Professor/Head of Research will be a member of the committee managing SDCO's research funds, and should, however, also ensure, that SDCO attracts substantial research funding from external sources.

The successful applicant for the position as Clinical Professor position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).


Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the University of Southern Denmark.

• With regard to the position as consultant: information on personal skills as outlined in "the seven roles of the physician"  should be stated
• A detailed research plan outlining the candidate's ideas for her/his future research.
