Compliance Officer with focus on sanctions, PEP and adverse media Screening - Screening Controls & Technology
Are you a compliance professional with technical talent and interest in automated screening technologies? Do you have experience with regulatory expectations to sanctions, adverse media and PEP screening, and the associated requirements and risks? Danske Bank’s Screening Controls & Technology team in the 2nd Line of Defence is looking for a compliance officer to join a team of seasoned experts, who all have a shared passion for financial crime, controls and technology!
The Screening Controls & Technology team is part of the Sanctions & FCC Special Focus Areas function in Group Compliance, and is responsible for the oversight and monitoring of Danske Bank Group’s sanctions, adverse media and PEP screening, with a specific focus on screening technology and associated processes and controls. The team also closely supports the wider organization in establishing and improving relevant controls and processes to ensure that they are developed, executed, and maintained in compliance with relevant requirements.

This is a permanent position, and you can choose to be based either at the Bank´s head office in Copenhagen (Denmark) or at either of the regional HQs in Helsinki (Finland), Oslo (Norway) or Stockholm (Sweden).
Your main responsibilities will include:
Continuously evaluating the Bank’s sanctions, adverse media and PEP risk and screening framework, identifying areas of improvement, and developing clear remediation recommendations Driving change initiatives (or participating as a sanctions, adverse media and PEP compliance SME) that focus on enhancing the Bank’s technical sanctions, adverse media and PEP screening framework and controls Supporting 1st Line of Defence in the interpretation of relevant Group policies and instructions concerning the sanctions, adverse media and PEP screening domains Contributing to the technology development agenda of Group Compliance, identifying and championing new technologies that help the Bank deliver an effective sanctions, adverse media and PEP compliance programme Carrying out and contributing to assurance and monitoring of the Bank’s sanctions, adverse media and PEP risk and screening processes and capabilities Taking part in the development of the Sanctions & FCC Special Focus Areas function together with the wider team Success Criteria for a compliance officer in Screening Controls & Technology
Collaboration: The job requires extensive collaboration with units responsible for technology and operations in the sanctions, adverse media and PEP screening domains (e.g. application and product owners) as well as with 1st Line of Defence counterparts Communication: As many stakeholders are involved and dependent on our oversight and expertise, monitoring, directing, and requirement setting from the 2nd Line of Defence perspective, it is important that you are able to communicate complex topics with ease and also being able to change your approach with different stakeholders Content knowledge: The majority of tasks will require knowledge of financial crime laws and regulations, industry standards, and best practices, as well as adverse media and PEP screening requirements, as they pertain to sanctions, adverse media and PEP risk management and screening systems. With this in mind, a relevant Master’s degree and previous experience (3+ years) with sanctions, adverse media and PEP compliance tasks is desired. Knowledge of financial industry messaging standards and associated schemes (e.g. SWIFT, SEPA) as well as the payments industry is an advantage. Readiness to learn: The function operates in a fast paced and in a constantly changing environment. Willingness to stay up-to-date with the changing regulatory landscape, technological industry advancements, and market practices is an important skill to succeed in this role. Integrity and determination: The guidance and instructions provided by our unit can potentially have a big impact on business lines, but also for the overall risk exposure.
