Consultancy in paediatrics combined with a clinical professorship in paediatrics with special focus on translational paediatric diabetic endocrinology



A clinical position as consultant paediatrics at the Department for Children and Adolescents at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital and Steno Diabetes Centre is open for appointment from as soon as possible.



The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of paediatrics with special focus on translational paediatric diabetic endocrinology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.



With this new position the Department for Children and Adolescents at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital and Steno Diabetes Centre wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.



It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Herlev Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Denmark. It has 4,500 employees and 22 departments offering treatment for almost all diseases - with the most modern technology available. The hospital is one of the Capital Region's four hospitals responsible for acute treatment and has a 24h emergency department.



The department for children and adolescents is a large general department. The recording area covers a population of about 500,000 inhabitants in the Region Capital with approximately 15.000 admissions and 23.000 visits in the outpatient clinic.



The department has highly specialized function in the treatment of Type I diabetes. The team follows around 650 patients now but will shortly increase to around 900 patients with the future joining with SDCC. The department together with SDCC thus has the largest treatment unit in the country. The function is carried out by a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, caregivers, bioanalyst, psychologist, social worker and dietitian. Youth clinic has been built up in cooperation with SDCC with joint outpatient services during the transition phase from young to adult.



In addition to diabetes, the department has highly specialized function in paediatric allergology, Tourette's syndrome and social paediatrics.



Other focus areas are: Paediatric neurology, asthma, other endocrinology, neonatology, acute paediatrics, infectious diseases, nephro-urology and gastroenterology.

The research unit covers beside type I diabetes and other endocrinology the areas of paediatric neurology and asthma/allergology.



Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in paediatrics and clinical professor of paediatrics with special focus on translational paediatric diabetic endocrinology, the Department of Children and Adolescents wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.



Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in paediatric.



Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital.



Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.



As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department for Children and Adolescents. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of Children and Adolescents. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Children and Adolescents, Herlev-Gentofte Hospital.
