A permanent clinical position as consultant at the Department of Urology at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a permanent position as clinical professor of Urology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Urology, Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

The department of Urology at Rigshospitalet is a multi-faceted and multi-disciplinary department with a majority of clinical functions within the field uro-oncology. Activies range from general evaluation and assessment of possible urological malignancies in the local population to being tertiary referral centre for adult patients with complex uro-oncologic conditions, offering all modalities of operative treatment and follow-up.

Furthermore, the department is a part of the Transplant Centre at Rigshospitalet, performing kidney transplantations in adults and children, taking part in organ procurement and in the living donor programme.

Other close collaborators are the Trauma Centre and the Centre of Spinal cord injuries from where we treat a large group of patients with neuro-urological conditions.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Urology and clinical professor of Urology the Department of Urology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialists in Urology.

The applicants must be experienced in basic urology, as well as be subspecialised in one or more of the focus areas of the department mentioned above, including evaluation, operation and follow-up of these patients. A broad experience in different operational techniques will be valued, including open, conventional laparoscopy and robot-assisted laparoscopy.

Leadership and cooperative skills are a prerequisite to this appointment.

An applicant with extensive research activity and clinical experience in the core services of the department will be preferred.

The position is associated with 24-hour shifts. Consequently, experience with urological traumatology and organ procurement will be highly weighted.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of the Institute Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Urology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the Department of Urology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Urology, Rigshospitalet.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet is the largest highly specialized unit for surgical treatment of the entire spectrum of diseases in the chest of both adult and paediatric patients in Denmark. The Department offers clinical and advanced residency programs for general thoracic surgery as well as cardiac surgery. The large number and complexity of patients at the Department provide an ideal learning environment for specialized cardiothoracic care.
The Department is national center for congenital heart disease as well as intervention in Grown Up Congenital Heart Disease (GUCH), lung-transplantation, surgery for Mesothelioma, surgery for advanced stage Thymoma and lung-volume-reduction surgery in COPD.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in General Thoracic Surgery or Cardiac Surgery and clinical professor of Thoracic Surgery the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

The applicant must hold a specialist certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery approved by the Danish Health and Medicines Authority or an equivalent certification by a Nordic or EU country which can be approved by the Danish Health and Medicines Authority.

The applicant must document scientific interest and activity within Cardiothoracic Surgery. The applicant must have documented clinical experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and experience in relevant surgical procedures, teaching, research and development within the research area.

The position is combined with a permanent position as clinical professor of Pathological Anatomy and Cytology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. With this new position the Department of Pathology at the Diagnostic Centre of the Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen leading clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT Clinical functions and focus areas of the department The Pathology Department of Rigshospitalet is Denmark s largest pathology department for expert diagnostics within all areas of surgical pathology. As surgical pathology anno 2019 is a multidisciplinary discipline, it requires doctors, lab-technicians, molecular biologists, secretaries and anatomical pathology technicians to work together to serve our patients. We are in all 180 employees, of which 37 are consultants, and receive 95,000 requests yearly. In the coming years, the Department of Pathology will intensify its focus on the balance between efficiency in diagnostics on the one hand and resources allocated to research and development on the other side. Biobank and Databank Denmark collects more data on its citizens that any other country. Administrative registers in Denmark are all indexed with a unique person identifier, the so-called CPR number. As the official Danish statistics bureau, Statistics Denmark recycles a large number of these administrative footprints to produce extremely comprehensive statistics. The Patobank (www.patobank.dk) is Denmark s nationwide digital databank since 1987 on pathology. The Patobank is continuously updated with data from all pathological analyses conducted by all the country s 13 pathology departments. This also includes pathology results from the screening programs for cervical, breast and colon cancer. The Patobank feeds directly into the National Health Registry of Pathology (www.sundhedsdatastyrelsen.dk da registre-og-services om-de-nationale-sundhedsregistre doedsaarsager-og-biologisk-materiale patologiregisteret) The Patobank is used as a daily tool for diagnostics, a data source for cancer registries and quality assurance programs and finally as a source for research projects. The data contain the patients name, unique person identifier, incl. birth date, the diagnosis, both as a descriptive report and with relevant SNOMED codes referring to the organ and the diagnosis and the pathology department where the samples is archived. Parallel to the local archives with paraffin embedded blocks, is The Danish Cancer Biobank (www.cancerbiobank.dk), a national biobank since 2010, containing fresh and frozen tissue and blood samples from patients diagnosed with certain cancer types. The samples in the biobank are verified to contain malignancy and are always, if possible, accompanied by a sample of non-malignant tissue of the same organ. All samples are checked to be representative and are reported and linked to the diagnostic counterpart of the tissue in the Patobank and the local paraffin archive. Digitalization There is a broad consensus in the pathology community, that digitization of images is part of the future of pathology, and several initiatives have already been undertaken at the dept. of pathology of Rigshospitalet and as a result, the equipment for scanning is purchased, just as the server capacity for archiving these images. Currently, there are good opportunities for scanning, digitalizing and archiving images for research goals and several research projects focusing on automatic image analysis and software development are been worked on. The department expects to go digital no later than 2021 after which all the departments 0.8 million diagnostic images yearly will be diagnosed and archived digitally. Research and teaching The Pathology department participates in several national and international research and development projects with the main objective to identify and investigate new diagnostic, prognostic, predictive and therapeutic conditions which affect patient care and treatment. The position is combined with a permanent position as clinical professor of Pathological Anatomy and Cytology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Pathology at the Diagnostic Centre of the Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen leading clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.



ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The Pathology Department of Rigshospitalet is Denmark’s largest pathology department for expert diagnostics within all areas of surgical pathology. As surgical pathology anno 2019 is a multidisciplinary discipline, it requires doctors, lab-technicians, molecular biologists, secretaries and anatomical pathology technicians to work together to serve our patients. We are in all 180 employees, of which 37 are consultants, and receive 95,000 requests yearly.

In the coming years, the Department of Pathology will intensify its focus on the balance between efficiency in diagnostics on the one hand and resources allocated to research and development on the other side.

Biobank and Databank
Denmark collects more data on its citizens that any other country. Administrative registers in Denmark are all indexed with a unique person identifier, the so-called CPR number. As the official Danish statistics bureau, Statistics Denmark recycles a large number of these ‘administrative footprints’ to produce extremely comprehensive statistics.

The Patobank (www.patobank.dk) is Denmark’s nationwide digital databank since 1987 on pathology. The Patobank is continuously updated with data from all pathological analyses conducted by all the country's 13 pathology departments. This also includes pathology results from the screening programs for cervical, breast and colon cancer. The Patobank feeds directly into the National Health Registry of Pathology

The Patobank is used as a daily tool for diagnostics, a data source for cancer registries and quality assurance programs and finally as a source for research projects. The data contain the patients name, unique person identifier, incl. birth date, the diagnosis, both as a descriptive report and with relevant SNOMED codes referring to the organ and the diagnosis and the pathology department where the samples is archived.

Parallel to the local archives with paraffin embedded blocks, is The Danish Cancer Biobank (www.cancerbiobank.dk), a national biobank since 2010, containing fresh and frozen tissue and blood samples from patients diagnosed with certain cancer types. The samples in the biobank are verified to contain malignancy and are always, if possible, accompanied by a sample of non-malignant tissue of the same organ. All samples are checked to be representative and are reported and linked to the diagnostic counterpart of the tissue in the Patobank and the local paraffin archive.

Digitalization
There is a broad consensus in the pathology community, that digitization of images is part of the future of pathology, and several initiatives have already been undertaken at the dept. of pathology of Rigshospitalet and as a result, the equipment for scanning is purchased, just as the server capacity for archiving these images. Currently, there are good opportunities for scanning, digitalizing and archiving images for research goals and several research projects focusing on automatic image analysis and software development are been worked on. The department expects ‘to go digital’ no later than 2021 after which all the departments 0.8 million diagnostic images yearly will be diagnosed and archived digitally.

Research and teaching
The Pathology department participates in several national and international research and development projects with the main objective to identify and investigate new diagnostic, prognostic, predictive and therapeutic conditions which affect patient care and treatment. With the new position as consultant in pathological anatomy and cytology and clinical professor of pathological anatomy and cytology, the Department of Pathology wishes to strengthen the department’s current clinical research activities and to promote inspiring pre- and postgraduate education in pathological anatomy and cytology. Qualifications
Conditions: In order to be considered the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the Hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as a consultant at Rigshospitalet.

Educational requirements
Medical specialist in pathology or other relevant medical speciality
Academic degree (PhD, Doctor of Medical Science or similar)

Salery and conditions
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.
