Cultivation Scientist in R&D

  • Research
  • Denmark - Hillerød

Are you passionate about working with the cultivation of cells? Do you thrive on working with state of the art laboratory/pilot technology? Are you also interested in project management and collaboration with professional and dedicated colleagues? Then the role as Cell Cultivation Scientist could be the right position for you.

About the department
You will become a part of the Research and Development organisation in Novo Nordisk. More precisely, you will be part of the department Mammalian Cultivation Development within Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) & Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API). We are a dedicated team of specialised and experienced employees consisting of scientists and laboratory technicians. As a department we are engaged in cell banking and cultivation process design. In the department we work with new production technology and automated systems to assist us with process development and optimisation.

Lead candidate cell lines are handed over from Research groups to our department. Our task is then to develop and document that cell lines and the final cultivation process are suitable for up-scaling to internal pilot plant facilities or Contract Manufacture Organisations (CMO). As part of this development flow we take responsibility for structured and constructive dialogues with our colleagues in both researches as well as in the pilot plants and CMO facilities to which our processes are transferred.

The position
As Cell Cultivation Scientist, one of your main responsibilities is to outline and execute the development of cultivation processes for new cell lines to ensure their suitability for up-scaling. This you will do in close dialogue with your colleagues in the department. The goal is to secure a highly robust process in terms of yield levels, by-products levels and process reproducibility.

In order to assure high quality of the data generated, it is expected that you help introduce new technologies, optimise existing use of equipment or develop new procedures. There is also a great opportunity to lead projects and develop your competencies within project management. You are expected to contribute to project execution activities including engaged participation in project planning meetings, task force meetings and tech transfer processes.

Qualifications
You hold a M.Sc. within Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy or similar, supplied with some cell physiology experience. You have some years of experience working with microbial fermentation or cultivation of mammalian cells.

Preferably, you hold a PhD combined with some years of experience from the industry or a relevant Master’s degree combined with several years of experience from the industry.

As a person you have a natural drive to take the lead and secure the progress on your projects. You have a structured approach to projects and tasks and prioritise well to ensure quality and meet deadlines. Your decisions are data driven based on strong analytical work. Your communication style is convincing, engaging and you have a positive mind-set.
