Danish National Genome Center is looking for five Bioinformaticians

We are looking for five experienced bioinformaticians with a strong interest in developing and maintaining bioinformatics tools and databases related to human genomics.

About the Danish National Genome Center
The Danish National Genome Center’s primary task is to lay the foundation for the development of better diagnostics and more targeted treatments using whole genome sequencing (WGS). The Center has a national responsibility to develop state of the art infrastructure to enable analysis of big biomedical heterogenous data.

One of the Danish National Genome Center’s main goals is to be at the forefront of new big data solutions in the healthcare domain. The Danish National Genome Center is working with High performance computing (HPC,) cloud, network, servers, storage, applications, users, and cross-cutting processes in a Linux software environment.

About the positions
To advance the use of Precision Medicine, it is essential to interact with end users of genomic analysis, and acquire, modify of develop analysis tools and databases that meet their needs. Genomic data will need to be integrated with a plethora of other data types and integration will be highly important in clinical diagnostic, for variant calling, interpretation and treatment strategies. Thus, it is important for the future users of the Danish National Genome Center platform that such tools are developed.

Your primary tasks will be to help define the need for databases and analysis tools, acquire, develop and maintain them. You will be part of one of the bioinformatics teams under the Chief Bioinformatics Officer. You will be part of a larger team of experts in the Precision Medicine field, including both health experts and IT experts that can help you with the databases, and you will also have access to most leading experts of the field.

We are looking for 5 bioinformaticians to develop and maintain bioinformatics tools and databases at the national genome center. Positions will be available both as team leaders and as developers within the teams.

Professional qualifications
We are looking for candidates with expertise within one or more of the areas below.

Bioinformatics workflows

  • Implement, maintain validate, and update QC pipeline
  • Scout, test, compare, select, validate new germline and somatic/pedigree pipelines, and versions
  • Development of comprehensive and integrated test/validation system to validate integrity of new pipeline versions
  • Tracking and monitoring of data flow.
Databases

  • Build and update national genome database for storing genetic data, QC, and meta data
  • Develop specifications for and implement databases
  • Connect to and update from external databases.


Annotation

  • Develop specifications and software for annotation tools and gene panel databases.


Analytics

  • Develop specifications and analytics platform
  • Development of analysis tools including calculation of polygenic risk scores and machine learning based on genomic and meta data input
  • Conduct proof of concept studies.
For team leader positions

  • Project leadership experience managing highly technical team and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to communicate complexity to non-technical audience.
  • Ability to work across all layers of the organization, and also external partners in the regional hospitals.
The ideal candidate has:

  • A scientific background in Bioinformatics or similar
  • Expertise in working closely with end users in an academic, public or commercial environment
  • Experience in human genomics
  • Expertise with big and complex data
  • Worked with human sequencing data
  • Experience doing scientific programming
  • Experience in developing enterprise grade code
  • Worked substantially with Python
  • Experience with docker and/or singularity
  • Experience with unit testing, pytest, tox
  • Expertise in machine learning methods and machine learning frameworks
  • Expertise in methods for training and testing machine learning methods and avoiding common pitfalls associated with such methods
  • Expertise in Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) and NAS
  • Has a strong drive to work in a team.

Depending on your academic qualifications and experience, there is a possibility of being classified as a special or senior consultant according to appendix 4 “protocol concerning special- and senior consultants” (Protokollat om special- og chefkonsulenter).

The position is a full-time position and is available from May 1st 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
