Department of Agroecology is looking for a computer programmer (957876)

Several research activities in Department of Agroecology generate comprehensive and complex datasets that need to be effectively stored, analysed and linked to various types of models. We use MS SQL databases and servers, Microsoft .NET, Matlab, C#, C++ and R-based tools for the management and analysis of these data, and their integration into modelling and dissemination platforms. You will be a part of a team responsible for data storage, management, analysis and visualization of these data.  
 
Main tasks could include 

  • Further develop our Shiny- R based platforms for population genetics analysis 
  • Use R-based tools for spatial and predictive modelling using diverse and complex data sources 
  • Database management and development of interfaces to GIS and web-based applications 
  • Developing, controlling and maintaining models created in C#, C++ and Microsoft Visual Studios .NET 
  • Development and maintenance of technical documentation 
  • Debugging of software applications 
  • Getting different models to work together (model linkage and web services) 
  • Technical support for users of the models and databases 
 
Minimum requirements  
  • Relevant education within software development, programming and IT  
  • Relevant professional experience  
  • Expert knowledge of one of the following: R, C# and C++  
  • Fluency in English, orally and written, and good writing and communication skills  
  • Good organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks daily 
  • Service minded 
  • Able to work result-oriented towards agreed goals and objectives  
 
Preferable qualifications  
  • Experience in programming for web-based statistical applications and data visualization tools. In particular, experience in developing and deploying Shiny applications. 
  • Experience with other scientific computer languages such as MATLAB 
  • Knowledge and interest in web-based communication 
  • Knowledge of research and exposure to research environment  
  • Knowledge of principles of field experimental setup and related statistics 
  • Experience in computational statistics and with a broad variety of statistical methods and for varied data sources 
  • Practical experience with predictive modelling using state-space models. 
  • Relevant experience with large models especially ecosystem models

The place of work is Blichers Allé 20, DK-8830 Tjele, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.

The employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement for academics employed by the state as well as audit report on certain conditions of employment for academic staff at universities or to the collective agreement concluded between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the trade union PROSA for IT professionals in government service and the joint collective agreement between the Confederation of Teacher's Unions and the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Public Employees of 2010 (the LC/CO10-joint collective agreement).
