Assessment of flood risk and adaptation options in Danish coastal cities

Flood risk changes over time due to both sea level changes and urban development. Historically the sea level has been lowering in Denmark, implying that the risk would be decreasing. In combination with other drivers this led to quite large urban developments in the last decades in low lying areas in Denmark, and this still continues. Alas, now the sea level is rising, leading to higher risk in these areas, and they must either be abandoned or protected by e.g. dikes. The purpose of the project is to find a suitable balance between rising sea levels and protection by dikes for a range of scenarios, e.g. under an assumption of no city development, an analysis of the historical development, and one or more future developments. The analysis could be focus on one particular (relevant) city/area or a comparison between different locations.

The main qualifications is good GIS competences in combination with analytical skills. Simple cost-benefit analyses based on e.g. the introductory climate change course is an advantage, just as courses on programming/scripting may be useful, but is not required. All data will be downloaded from public repositories.
