Novozymes is currently investigating the opportunities and benefits of applying Dynamic Image Analysis in producation and development of solid particle products on an industrial scale.
A Sympateq QicPic analyzer, in combination with other analytical methods, is applied to investigate e.g. surface properties and size distributions of particles, and the potential correlation to particle breakage patterns during the production process to obtain more knowledge about optimal settings and particle composition.
The overall aim of the project is to identify, analyse, and model potential applications of Dynamic Image Analysis technology within solid particle production and/or development in Novozymes.
The project will consist of:
- Investigating surface properties/parameters, size distributions, particle composition, and particle breakage patterns before and after applying mechanical stress in designed experiments
- Developing a model for predicting thresholds for particle breakage, and for obtaining more knowledge about breakage patterns, process operating conditions, particle growth and particle composition - e.g. as part of a broader population balance model
- Verifying the application of the model in production and/or development of Novozymes solid granulate products.
