Job Description Summary

The EHS Service Operations Europe Sr. Specialist position reports hierarchically to the EHS EU Regional Manager and is the EHS support to the Europe Service Operations Director and its team, comprising activities like Major Component Exchange, Corrective Maintenance Up Tower Repair and Blades Service.
As the Subject Matter Expert in EHS Service Operations, the EHS Sr. Specialist Service Operation, is a Lean Expert, who must be able to liase with all key stakeholders in a team of geographically dispersed Service operations managers, supervisors and EHS Specialists, taking actions to ensure ownership and support are available for each operation and dedicating some percentage of the role to the guidance, audit and follow up of front line operations from an EHS perspective, balancing their role is managing regional service issues.

Scope encompasses support to Service Operations in all Digital Services Europe, 24 or more countries in Europe and SSA divided in 42 clusters and the direct EHS support and guidance of Service Operations teams , composed by around 150 staff and supervisors employed by GE and around 100 contractor employees supervised by GE employees.
The position location can be any location within GE Europe Region. Locations with good hub travels for Europe are preferred.

Job Description

Role Mission and Responsibilities

  • To interpret Laws, Regulations and Procedures, considering all relevant local / national EHS standards in the organization, in coordination with local EHS team in each region to understand local requirements and ensuring they are considered in Service Operations activities, being able to assess operations according to complexity and risk, to guide service operations team in how to prioritize them.
  • To assess and prioritize operations complexity, ensure proper risk mitigation guidance for operations is in place when necessary and advocate for ongoing improvements to equipment and people safety through engineering controls, tools, procedures, supporting complex risk assessments, and guiding others.
  • Oversee training requirements to ensure the organization has a proper training plan in place, by position to ensure a proper level of knowledge in laws, regulations, and procedures for the service operations team.
  • Ensure the existence of planned audit activities are in place (Simplified Work Plan, Legal and GE documentation compliance for GE and contractors, Site inspections), overseeing audit content, KPIs and ensuring the team has been properly trained to deploy them, ensuring clear parameters are in place for audits - expectations, training, findings management, follow up.
  • Ensure compliance and full implementation in all GE EHS processes and EHS reporting systems.
  • Ensure periodical review of the service operations related events take place, recognizing trends and patterns, taking and advising actions to avert potential risks before they create an incident and share the knowledge with the regions EHS teams.
  • Challenge stablished processes, fostering process development, optimization and continuous improvement mindset at strategist level, while delivering complete processes with a lean and risk prioritization perspective.
  • Develop and implement initiatives and programs with an accurate lean perspective, designed to reduce injuries, minimize risks and within service operations activities, properly liaising with EHS regions to ensure deployment and implementation.
  • Foster collaboration with other departments like tooling and engineering in EHS aspects , being able to identify main stakeholder and advocate with each one of them in order to provide win-win situations, to achieve the most cost-effective options, aligned with business strategy and needs, while providing safety protection to employees and working environment while avoiding ineffective or inefficient solutions, leading initiatives for equipment guarding standards and the engineering of safer tools and machines.
  • Serve as coach, mentor and trainer for the management team, including supervisors and other key leaders in safety, being able to implement continuous improvement initiatives cross-functionally.
  • Maintain a rhythm of follow up meetings with key stakeholders like service director, site managers and supervisors, EHS team, key clients and contractors to ensure alignment on EHS expectations and support any business or local need for support
  • Being the main advisor and guide to leadership on deployment of EHS strategy, relevant changes in the regulations, and initiatives to improve performance in EHS.
  • Ensure periodical EHS meetings are held in all levels to involve the organization, follow up EHS Status and formally record information, creating and publishing accurate EHS metric reports per established schedules.
  • Reinforce EHS Zero Harm vision and strategy in all activities, trainings, meetings, and communications
  • Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of mechanical, electrical, industrial or other technical area
  • Locally or internationally recognized professional EHS qualification, like NEBOSH
  • 10+ years of experience in a Safety role as an individual contributor and or manager of people, ideally in wind business
  • Multiple years of experience in Program/ project management
  • Good understanding in crane operations, lifting and rigging.
  • Physical condition and fitness to climb a wind turbine
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office, web based tools
  • Good knowledge and understanding of European rules/regulations framework, interactions between authorities.
  • Languages: Fluent English skills and any other local European language (written and spoken)
  • Technical skills - Strategist level in Root Cause Analysis, Process development and optimization and Continuous improvement
  • Technical skills - Expert level in EHS Risk Assessment, EHS Guidelines and Processes, EHS Audits and Assessments, Regulatory Compliance, Security and Crisis Management and EHS Management System and lean.
  • Soft Skills - Expert level in Influence and communication, resilience and change management, performance, resources and conflict management, Employee relations and team engagement, vision and goals setting and analytical problem solving
  • Travel requirements: Yes, 30% of the time
  • Desired:

  • Familiar with OSHA (US) regulatory requirements.
  • Familiar with ISO 45001, 14001 Certifications framework
  • Technical background as a Wind Turbine Technician is a considered an advantage.
  • GWO (Global Wind Organization) qualifications (WINDA code).
  • Significant years of experience as a people/project manager, preferably including remote management of a geographically dispersed and multicultural background teams
