Electrical Modelling Engineer

A great opportunity for an experienced electrical modelling engineer to join a highly specialised and dedicated engineering team developing products, control solutions and plant design for innovative integration of renewable power plants in the power grid. As a lead electrical modelling engineer in the team you will be responsible for:

  • Technical lead of developing projects in close cooperation with project and line managers
  • Provide technical solutions and ensure performance and quality of electrical simulation models
  • Estimation, planning and execution of tasks in close cooperation with local and remote teams
  • Scoping, specifying and delegating task to reach department and project objectives

The core outputs within Power Plant Engineering are design of the electrical infrastructure of Vestas renewable power plants, the Vestas Power Plant Controller and electrical simulation models of wind turbines, power plant controller and renewable power plants, utilising the department's core competencies within Power System-, Control- and SW- Engineering. Plant Electrical Engineering is a department with Power Plant Engineering and focus mainly on the design of the electrical infrastructure and electrical simulation models.

Responsibilities
As a Lead Engineer in Plant Electrical Engineering, you will be a part of the Modelling team and report to the Manager of Plant Electrical Engineering within Power Plant Engineering. 
Your main responsibilities and tasks will be: 

  • Ensure performance and quality of simulation models through testing and validation 
  • Review and ensure engineering designs together with specialists in the team
  • Ensure that simulation models can be certified worldwide by working together with Vestas sales engineers and TSOs
  • Analyze functionality of power electronic converter systems and power plant controllers
  • Participate in cross functional teams developing power system related functionality of wind turbines and power plant controllers
  • Provide technical solutions to address specific challenges to integrate wind power plant into the grid without impact stability and reliability
  • Engineering activities in optimising the model development and validation processes

Qualifications
Your qualifications include: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Power System Engineering 
  • 4 years of working experience as a power system engineer
  • Experience from other power system/ turbine manufactures or Transmission System Operators (TSO’s)
  • Strong knowledge of simulation tools (Matlab / Simulink, PSS/E, DigSilent PowerFactory, PSCAD) 
  • It is expected that you understand: 
    • Power system time domain and frequency domain modelling and stability analysis
    • Electromagnetic and electromechanical transients of power system devices following abnormal events
  • It will be an advantage that you have knowledge in: 
    • SW and programming skills will be advantageous but not compulsory
    • Power electronic converters applied to non-conventional power generation systems
    • Controller design across different applications in machine drive systems and power system dynamics
