EMEA GBB Tier 1 Compete Technology Solutions Professional

Now more than ever, Microsoft is positioned to gain significant share in the Enterprise Application Platform market from competitors (such as Oracle).  At the same time, new capabilities (such as those delivered by Azure Data Services) offer compelling opportunities to advance Microsoft’s Data Platform.  The Global Black Belt (GBB) C+E Compete team secures SQL Server and Azure growth by driving the migration of Tier-1 workloads from competitive database platforms. Technology Sales Professionals (TSP) on this GBB team will drive competitive wins of Microsoft’s Data Platform at marquee customers and ensure the ongoing success of Tier-1 migration implementations.



The Oracle Compete Global Black Belt (GBB) Technology Solutions Professional (TSP) is a senior technical solution sales leader within our Worldwide Cloud and Enterprise organization, working head to head against our competition’s sellers on Tier-1 Data Platform opportunities. The candidate is responsible for identifying and developing new opportunities for workload migrations.  Because of the relative complexity of these opportunities, the candidate needs to form strong v-teams across Microsoft and beyond.  GBB TSPs align their efforts with GBB Solution Sales Professionals (SSP), our mainstream field sellers, Microsoft Consulting Services, SI and ISV partner sales executives, and Microsoft’s broader field leadership.  The candidate educates customers at a technical level, demonstrates and proves our solutions, and secures workload migrations to achieve/exceed quarterly SQL Server and Azure data services revenue and usage/consumption targets. 


The GBB TSP maintains and develops deep technical expertise as a member of this team and applies advanced technical competitive knowledge via technical presentations, demonstrations, proof of concepts, and migration assessments.  Beyond the transactional win, the GBB TSP guides ongoing migration implementation work to successful completion.


Primary accountabilities for this role include:

  • 50% - You will be the key technical leader and influencer in shaping customer decisions to buy, architect and adopt Microsoft Data Platform solutions and drive Tier-1 Competitive Migrations in EPG Marquee accounts. Being a member of the sales opportunity team, you will give technical presentations, demonstrations, help execute proof of concepts, design and implement solutions leveraging P-Sellers, partners, ISVs and MCS as needed. You will directly support the market share and revenue growth of Microsoft Data Platform through your technical leadership in designing and implementing mission critical solutions for our customers. 
  • 30% - You will be the thought leader in Data Platform Tier-1 Migration space. You lead by driving an active technical community across EMEA and by participating in internal Microsoft technical communities and in broader industry events and publishing blogs, whitepapers, reference architecture etc in your area of expertise
  • 20% - You will influence the Microsoft Data platform go to market strategies by providing feedback to sales, marketing, and engineering on current and future product requirements and sales blockers you encounter.

Working together with other teams such as GBB managers, Centers of Excellence, Microsoft Consulting Services, Customer Success Unit and other teams you will pro-actively drive field enablement to skill up and scale out competitive migrations.



Experiences Required: Education, Key Experiences, Skills and Knowledge:


  • 10+ years of related experience in technical pre-sales and/or technical consulting roles preferred
  • Excellent Communicator. Strong negotiation, organizational, presentation, product demo, written, and verbal communication skills required
  • Executive Presence. Proven experience engaging with senior level executives preferred
  • Highly driven person who consistently exceeds goals and expectations required
  • Able to work cohesively with members of the Microsoft sales & services field, Microsoft partners, and Microsoft corporate sales, engineering, and marketing required
  • Prior work experience in a senior technical position and/or strong knowledge of enterprise platform competitors such as Oracle, IBM, SAP, Teradata, or similar preferred


  • Data architect. Broad knowledge of and ability to explain key end-user scenarios and technical architecture in the data platform space required
  • Domain-specific subject matter expert. Demonstrated knowledge of SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) to migrate a non-SQL Server workload to SQL Server preferred
  • Planning for success. Understand cloud deployment and adoption planning preferred
  • Technical breadth. Enterprise-scale experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures (SQL Server/Azure Data Services, Cosmos DB), architecture designs, migrations and management of technology preferred
  • Open Source knowledge (Postgress, MySQL etcetera) preferred


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field experience required
  • Certifications in domain-specific technologies preferred

Certifications in information security preferred
