General Summary

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordination of all occupational health, safety and environmental programs and activities to assure environmental sustainability and the health and safety of our employees. This position interfaces with site personnel, vendors and regulatory agencies to ensure facility is compliant and in inspection readiness with regulatory agencies including OSHA, EPA, DNR and DOT. Manage environmental health and safety budgetary planning, recordkeeping and reporting obligations. Position is also responsible for maintaining OSHA log and all workers compensation activities.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements safety and environmental policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) rules and regulations.
  • Develops and coordinates required safety and environmental training as required by local, state or federal law or company policy.
  • Manages and maintains training records for new employee orientation, EHS required training, facility security and food safety.
  • Responsible for maintaining OSHA 300 log. Assumes all responsibilities for workers compensation claims, reporting, follow ups, etc.
  • Conducts and manages incident investigations and maintains incident tracking log.
  • Leads Safety Management Systems such as ISO 14001 that will deliver engagement activities to build internal capability and drive towards zero injuries and environmental compliance and sustainability.
  • Leads the Company’s Recycling and Sustainability Program.
  • Conducts industrial hygiene surveys and dosimetry for exposure to chemicals, noise, and other occupational hazards.
  • Conducts and updates job hazard analyses and personal protective equipment assessments.
  • Develops and updates Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
  • Conducts periodic safety and environmental compliance audits at both Milwaukee facilities. Issues status reports from audits and ensures that corrective actions are completed.
  • Guides and supports Company Safety Committee teams.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally to communicate and address EHS matters.
  • Ensures active participation in global EHS initiatives as directed.
  • Manages the hazard communication program, including review and approval for raw material and other chemical.
  • Manages the facility security and crisis management programs.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Basic understanding of ergonomics and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Knowledge of OSHA CFR 1910 and CFR 1926 regulations.
  • Knowledge of WI DNR environmental regulations and DOT Hazmat.
  • Ability to manage confidential information in an appropriate manner.
  • Ability to take initiative and work under limited supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Power Point, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Highly adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Energetic interpersonal skills and a professional presence. Ability to work effectively with employees and managers at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills required.
  • These characteristics are normally acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree in safety, environmental or a related technical field and 5-10 years’ industrial EHS experience. Professional certifications such as CSP, CHMM, ARM, CIH, etc. are a plus.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment, food grade preferred.
  • Knowledge of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards a strong plus.
  • Working Conditions

    Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate with occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Regular entry into the production facility requires personal protective equipment to be worn at all times. This includes a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, and gloves. Occasionally, comes in contact with extremely cold conditions (-55°C).

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, keyboard and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
