Experienced in vivo pharmacologist for translational cardiometabolic research in large animals

We are seeking a talented scientist to be part of Novo Nordisk A/S and participate in changing the quality of life for millions of people with cardiometabolic diseases.

The department
The large animal pharmacology team is a part of the ‘Diabetes, Cardiorenal in vivo pharmacology’ department in ‘Global Diabetes, Cardio-renal and Translational research’, Novo Nordisk A/S. As part of Novo Nordisk’s strategy within diabetes and cardiorenal disease, this department is focused towards target identification, validation, and deep pre-clinical characterisation of novel treatment options for diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart failure, and renal disease.

In close collaboration with our in vitro colleagues, we strive to identify and mature pharmaceutical approaches that will benefit patients that are at high risk despite receiving current standard of care treatment. We establish, validate, and use in vivo models in large animals (e.g. pigs, dogs, and non-human primates) and perform pharmacodynamic and mode-of-action studies to characterize potential new drug candidates. Experimental work is carried out by technical staff and scientists as well as outsourced as contract research.

The position
We are seeking an experienced and talented scientist to join our large animal pharmacology team. Here, you will be part of multidisciplinary project groups identifying new treatment options for cardiometabolic diseases, incl. diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart failure, and renal disease. We seek an individual with excellent knowhow within translational large animal pharmacology and cardiometabolic diseases.

The job encompasses active engagement in innovation, target discovery, and exploration of mode of action of new drug candidates with the objective to impact novel treatments. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing studies and be deeply involved in projects in the cardiometabolic area. The focus will be on the design of in vivo experiments to validate human relevance, assess translational tools, and explore mechanism of action for a given target. The candidate will work closely with other team members to move projects forward across the value chain.

Also, the candidate will participate actively in model development (in-house and/or at CROs) to enable exploration of new modes of action within diabetes, cardiovascular, and renal disease. A close collaboration with colleagues in Translational Science, Bioinformatics, in vitro and rodent pharmacology in ‘Global Diabetes, Cardio-Renal and Translational research’ as well as in ‘Global Obesity and Liver Disease’ is paramount. Furthermore, the candidate will take part in identifying new target opportunities as well as evaluating potential external opportunities from academia, biotech, or pharma. The candidate is expected to take part in specific studies in the animal facility when relevant.

Qualifications
You hold a Ph.D. within veterinary/biological sciences and have a few years of postdoctoral or pharma experience with in-depth knowledge and a proven scientific track-record in translational large animal pharmacology within the cardiometabolic space. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in establishing, optimizing, validating, and running studies in large animal models of diabetes, and/or cardiorenal disease(s), preferably in pigs and/or non-human primates.

Experience with translational aspects of the model(s) applied is highly wanted. A proven track record within target and/or drug discovery is a major advantage, as is a solid scientific network. International experience will be highly valued. In addition to your scientific profile, you are a dedicated, open-minded, and innovative team player with good collaboration and problem-solving skills.
