Fermentation Scientist

Job Description
This role will be part of DuPont Nutrition & Health – an industry leader that offers a wide range of sustainable, bio-based ingredients, which combined with in-depth knowledge of food and nutrition along with current research and expert science delivers unmatched value to the food, beverage, dietary supplement and pharmaceutical industries.

We are looking for a Fermentation Scientist to strengthen our Manufacturing Technology Group, specifically to improve and develop fermentation technology for production of new bioingredients. You will be part of our international manufacturing technology group, which is part of the global Technology and Innovation organization in DuPont Nutrition & Health.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform fermentation optimization and validation at Lab scale/Pilot scale to deliver key results in a timely manner
  • Organize and manage fermentation scale-up trials with production facility and implement the most appropriate fermentation for existing products and develop new recipes for new or next generation products at industrial scale
  • Optimization of production organism through strain optimization program

  • Record, analyze and report fermentation results in internal technical reports

  • Participate in project team work and information sharing with the wider research team for new bioingredients

  • Participate in process transfer to production plants as needed

  • Continually identify opportunities to improve current procedures, protocols, and methods applied for fermentation of new bioingredients

  • Present results at team and department meetings, and at external scientific conferences

Job Qualifications 

For this position, you will need to have:

  • Master Degree +5year experience in Fermentation Technology/Biochemical Engineering
  • Experience in aerobic fermentation /down scaling – upscaling methodology is mandatory

  • Experience in recombinant metabolite/protein expression and metabolic engineering of strains will be a plus.

  • Strong interest in industrial fermentation and bioproduction, understanding the needs of a fermentation process at industrial scale

  • Own experience from fermentation production Plant will be a large plus

  • Experience with sensors and analytical methods used for monitoring and control of fermentation processes is expected

  • Expert proficiency in the data analysis of fermentation performance, mass balancing and mathematical interpretation/modelling of fermentation results is mandatory

  • Highly organized with an ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business needs.

  • Team player with excellent communication skills and open minded personality

  • Excellent communication skills and enjoy working with international colleagues and customers

  • Fluent in English
